2/6 Forecast

Good morning!

Mountain Weather Forecast

Apparently if I say it’s going to snow and stay nice, like I did yesterday, it will rain. Today I’ll predict some rain instead and see if it stays nice.

The mostly clear skies we had this morning are going to give way quickly to cloudy skies and some light rain. We’ll see light rain sprinkles between 11am and 7pm with the snow level at 6000’, rising to 7000’ by 4pm and falling to 5000’ by 7pm, rapidly falling to 3000’ by Monday morning. Winds today will be NW 25-35, rising to W 35-45 around 4pm, rising further to W 45-55 by midnight. Total precip during the day will be around .1”-.2”. We’ll see another .5” or so after the snow level falls tonight, for 4-6” of new snow by 7am.

Light snow continues Monday morning, with the snow level at 3000’ by 4am, falling to 2000’ by 4am. Winds tomorrow will be quite strong, out of the WNW at 45-50 slowly dropping to NW 40mph by 4pm. Total water value between 4am Monday and 4am Tuesday will be .75-1” for 8-12” of new snow. =) =) =) If you’re headed to the mountain, dress for wind and cold.

Light snow flurries continue Tuesday morning before the sky becomes clear. Total accumulation will be around 1” on Tuesday. Winds will be light and variable, with temperatures in the low twenties on the slopes. Wednesday looks dry and cold.

If long term models hold, we’re headed back into normal winter next weekend, with significant snowfall. =) =) =)

Gorge Wind Forecast

Increasing westerlies today pick up into the 18-22 range late this afternoon, building into the 30+ range from Stevenson to the Idaho border overnight. If you want it tomorrow morning, get it early, and I mean sunrise early, because the strong wind will fade quickly. By midday, winds will be in the 14-17 range in the Central Gorge and 23-26 range out east. Westerlies in the 16-20 range will hold at Roosevelt all day Monday. Tuesday looks light, and so does Wednesday.

Have a great day!

Good morning!

Well, at least the forecast is interesting to write today!

Mountain Weather Forecast

The snow level today will hover around 5000’-5500’ through 10pm or so, maybe a bit later. Winds will be W at 25-35 all day. We’re supposed to see a total of .75” or so, and it looks like that’s going to be snow. So, in theory, we’ll see 6-8” today, but I’m not seeing that on the radar. Let’s just go with a few inches of snow before 10pm, before things switch over to light r**n.

The snow level tomorrow morning rises a bit to 6000’, rising to 6500’ by 4pm, and rising further to 8000’ briefly, and then falling to 5000’ by midnight. Winds tomorrow will be NW 30-40, rising to W 40-50 by 4pm, rising further to W 50-60 by 7pm. This looks problematic. We’ll see a little rain or some freezing rain early tomorrow, a dry period between noon and 7pm, and then increasing light rain or snow overnight.

Monday looks like our first powder day in a long while, as orographic precipitation gives us .75”-1” of water value during the day, for 8-10” of new snow. Snow levels during the day will be at 3000’. Winds on Monday could be problematic as the cold front moves through. Morning winds will be WNW 40-50 early, dropping to NW 30-40 by 1pm.

Tuesday looks clear, cold and calm.

Gorge Wind Forecast

Light westerlies blow through the Gorge today, with 14-18 about all we’re going to see. Tomorrow looks similar, but the nukefest starts around 4pm on Sunday as a cold front pushes in. Drive preemptively if you want it. Otherwise, wait until Monday morning when the entire Gorge will be 30+ westerlies. Get it early, as it will start dropping off early.

Have a great day!
