Good morning!

Yes, this forecast is a bit late this morning. I was out late last night at a whitewater kayaking film festival featuring ‘Wildwater, a Love Story’. If you missed it last night, you can see it in Portland tonight. Or, if you are lucky enough to have tickets, the Moth Radio Hour is in Portland tonight. And don’t forget about the fundraiser benefitting the Meadows avalanche puppy team at Everybody’s Brewing in White Salmon on Sunday…

But what you want is the mountain weather forecast, right?

Light snow flurries continue today, with the snow level around 1000’, dropping to your house elevation at times. Total water value today will be .25” for 2-3” of new snow, falling in a slow and intermittent manner between now and 4am tomorrow. Winds on Mt. Hood will be light today, starting off around SW 15-20 and falling to SW 10ish by 1pm.

The snow level tomorrow remains very low, but we won’t see much accumulation as the upper level low driving the snowfall stays well offshore and tracks south (to California, where those bastards will get our snow, once again). At best, if we get lucky, we’ll see an inch of new snow tomorrow. On the bright side, winds will be light, starting at SW 10-15 and swinging around to E 15-20 in the evening.

Saturday looks dry and partly cloudy, with the freezing level less than 1000’ and no snow accumulation. Winds on Mt. Hood will be E 25-30 early, falling to E 15-20 by 7pm.

Sunday looks dry during the day, with the freezing level at 1000’ or less. Morning winds will be W 5-15, rising to W 20-25 by 4pm. Snow will start falling around 7pm, continuing through 1am on Monday. Total accumulation will be around .25” water value for 2-3” of new snow by the holiday.

Monday brings a few more inches of new snow with light to moderate wind. More details tomorrow.

Have an awesome day today!

Good morning!

Mountain Weather Forecast:
Today starts off with partly cloudy skies on Mt. Hood, but snow flurries move in before daylight, with light flurries until 10am, becoming moderate snow between 10am and 10pm. Total water value today will be .5-.75” for 5-8” of light and fluffy new snow. The snow level today will be less than 1000’. Winds today start at WSW 10-15, building to 15-20 by 4pm and continuing overnight.
Tomorrow brings alternating orographic snow flurries and partly cloudy skies. Total accumulation tomorrow will be less than .25” water value for 1-3” of new snow. Winds tomorrow start off WSW 15-20, dropping to 10-15 midday, going to SW 10 overnight.
Models are differing in their opinions of Saturday’s weather, but the overall consensus is for dry, partly cloudy to sunny weather with light wind. We may see some high clouds as an upper level low swings by the coast, but the chance of precipitation is minimal.
It looks like the snow will start again during the day on Sunday, with significant accumulation between midday Sunday and Monday morning. Winds on Sunday look light. There is another model suggesting the snow will hold off until Sunday night, so we may have to wait a day or two for a better consensus.
Don’t forget that ‘Wildwater, A Love Story’ plays at Columbia Center for the Arts tonight at 7pm.
Have a great day today!
