Good morning,

That’s pretty much it for the snow report this year. Timberline is still open midweek, but Skibowl is done running lifts for the season, with the exception of the rope-tow served terrain park, and Meadows is closed until Saturday. If you still want to ski, you’ll have to hit the backcountry (and please be careful out there), as Meadows and Skibowl are not allowing people to ski their closed slopes.

That means it’s time to switch sports. To help you with that, there’s going to be wind today. No, really. I know the river’s glassy now, but the wind will pick up later. A cold front pushes through sometime this morning. Although the wind is very light now, it will be blowing gusty 16-19 near Hood River mid-morning, picking up to very gusty 23-26 by noon, with the steadiest wind at Rowena and Roosevelt. There will be a brief spurt of 25-29 this afternoon, but it’s not going to last long.

Tomorrow puts us in a post-frontal pattern with a cool, partly cloudy day. The wind near Hood River will be in the 14-18 range, with 17-21 from Rowena east to Maryhill. It looks like we’ll see light wind Wednesday. If you are a wavesailer who’s not afraid to travel a long ways, remember that the American Windsurf Tour Waddel Creek event starts tomorrow.

In other news, Post Canyon is dry enough to ride now and is in great shape. With only a few sprinkles forecasted for this week, and 70 degrees by Wednesday, Post should stay rideable all week long.

Have a great day today!

Temira.

Good morning!

Today is going to be a beautiful day, with high temperatures reaching 65-70 degrees in the Hood River Valley. It’s the last day of full operations at Meadows. They’re open two more weekends for limited operations, but today’s your last day for the whole mountain. Today is also customer appreciation day at Skibowl, with free lift tickets all day long from 9 ‘til 4. It looks like tomorrow will bring some high clouds to the valley and mountain in the afternoon, with a couple of inches of snow above 4000’ tonight. After tomorrow, everything should start to corn up, so I’m thinking St. Helens later this week.

The daily double is out of the picture today. The wind through the Gorge is very light this morning, and will stay light today. A cold front pushes in tomorrow, dropping the snow level from 8000’ to about 3500’ during the day. Models are all over the place with the wind forecast, but this type of situation usually gives pretty strong wind. I think we’ll see 16-19 from Stevenson to Arlington in the morning. By noon or so, wind from Rowena eastward should be blowing in the 24-28 range, with a chance of 28-32 at The Wall and Roosevelt.

It looks like the westerlies will continue on Tuesday, with mid-twenties from Hood River to The Dalles and a little less wind elsewhere.

In other news, today is the Bear Spring cross-country mountain bike race over at McCubbins Gulch. It’s also your chance to get a free acupuncture treatment at Gorge Community Acupuncture in Hood River.

If you want to go boating or rafting, the Wind River is in. It’s running in the high 5’s. The White Salmon is at 3 ¾, and the Hood is just over 5 feet.

I will be working at the mountain until 4pm today, so please go out and do something fun for me!
