Oh look, it’s Monday and the sun is out! Not only that, but it’s going to be windy. Actually, it’s already windy. With the gradient at .11 from Portland to The Dalles right now, it’s going to blow 28-32 from Mosier to Rowena, and if we’re really, really lucky, 28-32 at the Hatchery today. It’s a long shot, as there are some little fluffy clouds past Hood River this morning. Most likely scenario is gusty 21-24 from Stevenson to Hood River today and 28-32 from Moiser to The Wall.

Tomorrow looks slightly less windy with definitely less clouds as high pressure clears the sky. We’ll still have low pressure in the desert. Combine that with the North Pacific High for a summer-like setup and 23-36 by midday from Stevenson to Hood River with less wind further east.

Wednesday looks light, or lighter, anyway.

In mountain bike world, Jeri reports that Post was very muddy yesterday and that she ended up riding the road. That means it’s likely quite muddy today as well, so if you must ride it, at least wait until the afternoon. If you’d like to give back to the trails, Charlie LaVenture trail day is this weekend.

I’ve had several questions about morels. The yellow morels are out in the lowlands and the blacks are just starting around 1000-1250ft. There are still plenty of verpas (why bother) up high.

That’s it. Go do something fun today. I have a very exciting day planned. I’m going to take my snow tires off my car.

Good morning!

It’s still winter up on Mt. Hood today, with snow falling at the resorts. Timberline has had 5” of new in the last 24 hours and Meadows has had 3” of new snow. It’s pretty decent, not too wet new snow, and should make for good riding on the groomed runs today.

The wind forecast today looks good for a daily double if you’d like to ski in the morning. We’ll have light wind in the 15-17 range this morning, holding in the teens near Hood River today, but building to 24-28 from Rowena eastward in the afternoon.

A more summerlike wind pattern kicks in tomorrow as high pressure builds off the coast. We’ll see 19-23 early from Hood River eastward. The strongest wind tomorrow depends on where the clouds end up, but I think we’ll see 28-32 in the afternoon from Rowena to The Wall.

Tuesday looks like a very solid west wind day. Again, the clouds will affect where the strongest wind is, but I think we’ll see a quick build into the 28-32 range from the Hatchery to Rowena on Tuesday.

In the mountain bike world, Nestor Peak and Buck Creek are fully open, so you have another trail option.

If you’d like to go boating or rafting today, the white salmon is at 3.7ft, the klickitat is at 2600cfs, the wind is at 5.7ft and the hood is at 5.1 feet. Thanks to Wet Planet whitewater for the river numbers.
