Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
It’s another great day to be on the mountain. Excellent packed powder everywhere with a few inches of new. You’ll want to get it now, because a pattern change later this week is going to impact the snow quality.
For Monday, it will be partly cloudy with occasional flurries early and sunshiney in the afternoon. The snow level will be 1500′ early, 2500′ in the afternoon, and 0′ (free air freezing level) overnight. Wind will be W 25 early, WSW 20 in the afternoon and evening.
Tuesday looks sunny. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 0′ early, 4000′ in the afternoon, and 6500′ after midnight. Wind will be WSW 15-20 all day and night.
Clouds move in Wednesday morning. Depending on the path of an incoming system, we may or may not see rain and/or snow Wednesday night. Not helpful, eh?! The snow level will be 6000′-6500′ during the day, perhaps dropping to 4500′ after midnight. Model inconsistencies… Anyway, the wind will be out of the SW on Wednesday at 20ish mph.
Model inconsistencies increase on Thursday. The forecast snow level is 4000-6000′, meaning there’s not really a way at this point to know if we’ll see rain or snow. The fact that this storm is coming out of the SW hints at rain, but we’ll have to see. Also in the forecast is up to 2” moisture and strong wind. The next system is slated for Sunday afternoon, and it looks like a rainy, windy one as frontal systems swing off a MONSTER system in the northeast Pacific.
Random Morning Thoughts
I was talking last week about how it’s not necessarily a wise idea to focus life on being happy. Because that’s a setup for failure, yo. If you like to feel happy (and who doesn’t?!?!), there’s a mental hack you can employ.
See, we’re probably only going to be happy a certain amount of the time. But there are always other people around us for whom we can be happy. Want to be happier more often? Be happy for the happiness of others.
Know how banks only have to hold 10% of the money on the books? (That’s an oversimplification, but you know what I mean). You only have to be happy 10% of the time. The rest of the time you can leverage your 10% by using the happiness of others to create your own. Leverage. Troubling for banks and corporations. Useful for humans. May you be happy. Have an awesome day.
Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time at Comprehensive Healthcare in White Salmon. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely. Forecasting and counseling are both deeply meaningful and nourishing to me.
