Now that fall is here with windless days, it’s time to ride road bikes. You’re in shape after a summer of pedaling, so sign yourself up for the Echelon Gran Fondothis weekend. There’s a road ride (30/80/100 miles) and a dirt ride (35 miles). The dirt ride is on a mix of dirt roads and paved roads, with the possibility of adding a little singletrack and riding along with you will be Greg LeMond. Start time is 8am Saturday at Full Sail, and it’s a mass start, so should make for good spectating. The ride is fully supported by Hammer (gel, etc) and Solstice, and Knead, and other local companies. Even if you don’t want to ride, you can still get in on the action. The afterparty runs from 3-6, with $15 getting you delicious food and the chance to hang out with a bunch of smoking hot cyclists. If you sign up between now and Friday, enter the code “hood” and get $25 off.

We’re looking at a series of low pressure systems off the coast, so the wind is going to stay light for the next few days. There’s a chance we’ll see some west wind on Monday, but it’s looking pretty gusty and possibly rainy too.

This light wind means it’s great weather for road biking, and with the Dollar Lake Fire 90 percent contained, Lost Lake, Vista Ridge, Lolo Pass and Red Hill roads have reopened for your hill-climbing, road biking sufferfest. If you want to ride this weekend, it’s not too late to sign up for either the Harvest Ride or the Echelon Gran Fondo on Saturday. Enter code “hood” on your Echelon registration page for $25 off your entry fee. And if you don’t want to ride, there’s an afterparty in Hood River from 3-6pm, so you can still support the fundraising effort.

In straight-up weather news, it looks like we’re going to get more rain on Sunday morning and then again on Monday morning. The bike trails are super dusty, so this is great news. Speaking of biking, coming up next weekend, it’s the Dirty Fingers Bike Repair customer appreciation party, taking place in Leavenworth this year. Call the shop for more details on the campout.

Also, if you’d like to help raise money for the Post Canyon Trailbuilding Fund, there’s a chance this weekend. Echelon Gran Fondo will donate money to the fund if we can gather up volunteers. Contact Mitchell at Dirty Fingers to sign up.

Finally, I want to remind all of you to vote for local band Sunderland in Charter’s center stage contest. Head to Charter.com, click on Center Stage, and vote for our local band. They’re only behind by about a hundred votes, so your vote can make a difference.

Have an awesome day today!

First off, the most important thing of all. Local Hood River band Sunderland needs your help. No, seriously. Head to Charter.com, register (it’s a little bit of a pain, but these guys really, really need your help), and vote. You can vote once a day through the 25th.

Second, I did some giveaways this morning. Two people won $50 gift cards to Meadows, and two people won a free visit to Hood River Chiropractic. That’s what you get for making a donation and supporting the forecast. =)

Third, if you’d like to ride in the Echelon Gran Fondo for free, sign up for the forecast email and shoot me a note. I’ll be giving away one free entry tomorrow.

There’s really not much to say about the wind for the next three days, because there really isn’t going to be any. But, there are a lot of cool events going on between now and Sunday.

Tonight is first, with the next-to-last Post and Pint ride of the season, leaving Dirty Fingers at 5:30 this afternoon.

Tomorrow, NASA’s upper atmosphere research satellite is scheduled to come crashing down to Earth, making for a great show in the sky if you’re in the right place at the right time. And don’t worry, because you only have a 1 : 20,000,000 chance of getting hit by a piece of space debris.

In less risky events, tomorrow marks the start of a tennis tournament to raise money for resurfacing and repair at the Hood River Tennis Courts.

On Saturday, there’s the Hood River Harvest Ride, along with the Echelon Gran Fondo. If you sign up for the Echelon Gran Fondo with special code “hood”, all lowercase, you’ll get $25. Both of these bike rides are fundraisers, so pick on and do it. Speaking of fundraisers, the Gorge Kids Triathlon is on for Saturday for kids from K-5. That’s a fundraiser for health and fitness programs at Hood River Elementary schools.

On Sunday, there’s a 5k and 12k race at the Twin Tunnels, starting at 8am.

Have an awesome day today!
