That’s quite an inversion we have going on in the Gorge this morning, with dismal air quality in the inverted layer. Air quality should improve this afternoon as overall air flow turns onshore, mixing the layers. Best chance of rain in the next few days, in case you were wondering, is Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

We’ll see west wind this afternoon in the 5-10 range. Not very exciting, I know, and that’s all we’ll see for the next few days.

The wind isn’t there, but the mountain biking is perfect. There’s added incentive to ride your bike today: I hid another of those Henni’s gift certificates in Post Canyon, somewhere above Family Man. Look for the red bad with the monkey logo, and if you’re the lucky finder, you’ll have dinner for two at Henni’s in White Salmon. Now that’s a good reason to go ride perfect dirt, right?

Coming up this weekend: Saturday is the HRVHS gear swap. Saturday is also Post Canyon Shuttle day, where for $35 you get lunch and all-day shuttles in Post. Sign up ahead of time, or it’s $40 if you sign up at the event. Money raised goes to the trailbuilders’ fund. Sunday is the Columbia Gorge Marathon. Oh, and I almost forgot: there’s touch rugby at the Hood River Marina at 6pm on Friday. Or so they say.

Have an awesome day today!

It’s going to be very windy today, Tuesday, at Stevenson and Rooster Rock. 30+ seems like a good call for Stevenson this morning, and 40+ seems reasonable for Rooster Rock. With the big gradients, even Hood River will see easterlies by midday in the 10-13 range. The weather should be lovely today as well, with plenty of sun, and since the sun’s going away tomorrow, you should enjoy it today.

There’s also going to be an inversion today, so if you ride your bike up at High Prairie and the 44 Road trails, it’s going to be warmer than it is down here in the valley. That’s not to say you shouldn’t ride Post Canyon. It’s pretty much perfect right now, especially the trails above Family Man.

Your wind forecast for the rest of the week includes a 5-10 start tomorrow, building to gusty, short-lived 23-26 out east in the afternoon, with a slight chance of showers. Thursday brings west wind in the 10-13 range.

For events this week, there’s Kayak Polo tonight at the Hood River Pool at 8pm. Saturday is the HRVHS gear swap. Saturday is also Post Canyon Shuttle day, where for $35 you get lunch and all-day shuttles in Post. Sign up ahead of time, or it’s $40 on Saturday. Money raised goes to the trailbuilders’ fund. Sunday is the Columbia Gorge Marathon.

Chance of snow below 8000’ in the next week: not so great. Chance of the mountain opening in the next two weeks: zero.
