Good morning!

If you’re in the Gorge, you have the distinct pleasure of looking out your window this morning and seeing the Nothing, the gray gloom of clouds that develops from an inversion layer. I think I mentioned a while back that Jimmy from 3 Rivers starts 241 steak night after the first inversion, and someone mentioned to me the other day that steak night is up and running for the year. That gives you something to do tomorrow evening. Steak night date night, right?

In the mountains for the next three days, we won’t see much in the way of snow. Today looks dry, with partly cloudy conditions and wind at W 5-10 picking up to SW 15-20 late afternoon. The snow level will be 2000’ early, rising to 5500’ in the afternoon. We’ll see a bit of snow mixed with rain or wet snow above 5000’ tonight, for maybe an inch of accumulation.

The snow level will be at 6000’ Wednesday morning, with flurries through 7am or so. The snow level rises to 8500’ in the afternoon with skies becoming partly cloudy to clear. Windspeeds Wednesday will be SSW 20-25 early, fading to SSW 10-15 in the afternoon.

On Thursday, we’ll see sunny skies in the mountains with the free air freezing level around 9000’ and wind at SW 5-10. Next chance for significant snow accumulation is Saturday. Chance of Meadows/Skibowl opening in the next 10 days: Less than 10%.

Gorge winds will be easterly for the next three days. We’ll see E 15-20 today at Rooster Rock and then E 22-25 tomorrow and Thursday from Stevenson to Rooster.

In other news, there’s Kayak Polo at the Hood River Pool tonight at 8pm followed by Kayakers Drinking at the British Pub at 10pm. Thursday from 7-8pm is a pool session for kayakers. $3 if you live in the pool district.

Below is your graphical forecast for the mountain. Have an awesome day today!

Monday 11/7 Forecast

Well, it’s Monday again, and we’re all suffering time lag from switching our clocks to standard time this weekend. The standard we’re striving for, apparently, is complete darkness after work. All I have to say about that is, “Yuck!”

The snow forecast for the next few days isn’t very promising, as an upper low stays close enough to send clouds over western WA/OR, but far enough away to keep the precipitation from falling on Mt. Hood. The mountain sees the snow level around 2500’ today, with WSW wind at 10-15mph. We might see a light band of snow move through overnight, between 10pm and 2am, for less than 1” of new snow.

Tomorrow starts off with the snow level / free air freezing level around 2000’, rising to 5500’ by the afternoon in southerly flow caused by the offshore low. The wind will be light east early, going to S 10-20 in the afternoon. No new snow.

Wednesday sees a slight chance for snow mixed with rain between 4am and 10am with the snow level at 6000’ and the free air freezing level rising to 7500’ in the afternoon. Next chance for significant snow will be next weekend. Chance of Meadows/Skibowl opening in the next two weeks? Less than 10%.

In Gorge wind news, we’ll see light west wind today, light east wind tomorrow, and easterlies in the 21-24 range on Wednesday.

There’s not much to talk about in upcoming events in the Gorge, so just get out and enjoy the dry weather!
