Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – 5000′

Good morning,

Round two of “please vote for me” Click through to this Grant Myrdal photo gallery and scroll over the photo of me (red helmet, brown gloves, big happy smile) and click on the green thumbs up. I could win a new pair of skis, and I sure need them! Thank you, and please share via Facebook and other social networking. It’s going to take a lot of votes to win.

Oh yes. Another lovely day. With thunderstorms in the forecast tomorrow, we should have a stunning sunrise tomorrow and Tuesday and a gorgeous sunset Monday night. Make sure your camera is charged!

First off, a million thanks to the 62 of you who showed up to work on the Whoopdee trail yesterday. I think Steve was relieved and thrilled to have such a big turnout. Thanks also to Jeff and his crew for their work moving logs from Seven Streams. There are only a couple of logs still down on the trail (and many muddy patches). However, Toilet Bowl is not open, and salvage operations are ongoing there. Please stay out. In addition, there are many trees down on 8-Track, so the riding is quite limited. Just keep that in mind. And… there’s a HRC sign at the bottom of Seven Streams saying the trail is closed. That said, I went running up there yesterday and ran into 15 or so very happy people out on the trail. Know that your hard work is appreciated.

On to the Mt. Hood forecast: The freezing level will be above 10,000 for the next three days, with SW wind in the 15-20 range. Tomorrow brings a pretty good chance of thunderstorms, starting around 11am and continuing through the afternoon and evening. Tuesday just looks sunny.

In Gorge wind news, we’ll have light easterlies today, switching to light west wind. Tomorrow starts off with light easterlies, swinging to the west and picking up to 17-20 in the afternoon. However, those thunderstorms are going to make windsurfing and kiting a bad idea tomorrow. Tuesday starts off with westerlies at 17-20, fading in the afternoon as an upper level low swings up the coast.

For events, you have the Waterfront Park weeding party today from 9am on and a CGORA ride at Pine Mont starting at 10am. Tomorrow night the film “Garbage Warrior” plays at Andrew’s. I just wanted to say “garbage warrior.”

Have a great day today!

Good morning,

First off, please help me out today. Go to this link, scroll over the photo, and click the green thumbs up. It has to happen today. I just found out. Thank you!

Oh wow what a day it’ll be! Everyone enjoy the gorgeous weather today. It’s going to be a perfect day to get out on a bike. Or work in the garden. Last frost day for Hood River proper was April 20th, and I’m not seeing any frost in the next week, at least at city level. I’m going for it with the tomatoes this afternoon.

Don’t tire yourself out too much. Tonight at Columbia Center for the Arts, it’s Andrew Shurka, explorer extraordinaire. You don’t want to miss this one. It’s armchair traveling at its best! 7pm. $10. Well worth it.

In the meantime, there’s the Whoopdee/Post work party this morning. Meet at 8:30am at 10 Speed Roastery. There’s the Trout Lake run, benefiting the Trout Lake School. There’s annual cleanup day at the Discovery Center in The Dalles (this one earns you free lunch and movie tickets). Tomorrow is a CGORA moto ride at Pine Mont, and it’s the annual weeding party at the Hood River Waterfront Park. If you’d like to adopt a plot, there are still some available.

Enough events. Weather. It’s going to be perfect. Warm and sunny. Finally!

On Mt. Hood: The freezing level will be 11,000′ all day, with SW wind at 15-25. Tomorrow: 12,000′, SW wind at 10-15. Monday: 12,000′, SW 10-15, possibly a few showers and/or thunderstorms Monday afternoon into Monday night. Tuesday, partly cloudy, 11,000′ and SW wind at 15-20.

In the Gorge: Today: light east wind. Tomorrow: light east wind. Monday: probably more wind than models predict. West at 10-15 early and 22-26 near Hood River in the afternoon.

Have a great day today!
