Mt. Hood Weather Forecast
Friday’s starting off partly cloudy on Mt. Hood, but that will quickly transition to light snowfall for the next 48 hours or so. While some forecasts are predicting up to 8” of snow, that feels optimistic to me given the lack of moisture and lack of forcing. That said, with light wind on the mountain, it’s likely we’ll get just enough snow in the next two days to refresh the groom. For Friday, expect a quick transition from partly cloudy to flurries and light snowfall. The snow level will be 2500′ all day, dropping to 1500′ after midnight. About 0.1” water value (WV) falls during the day, for an inch of new. Another 0.1” to 0.3” WV falls overnight, for 1-3” of additional fluffy, dry snow accumulation. Wind will be SW 20-30 in the morning, SW 20-25 in the afternoon, and SW 10-15 after midnight.
Flurries continue on Saturday morning before transitioning to sunbeams on Saturday afternoon. The snow level will be 1500′ all day with the free air freezing level falling to 0-500′ overnight. Just an inch or so of new snow falls during the day. Wind: SW 10-15 in the morning, SW 15-20 in the afternoon, WSW 20 in the evening, and WNW 10-15 after midnight.
Sunday looks dry and sunny. The free air freezing level will be 0-500′ early, 2500′ in the afternoon, and 0′ after midnight. No new snow. Wind: WNW 10-15 in the morning, NW 10-15 in the afternoon, and SW 5-10 overnight. Monday looks sunny in the morning and partly cloudy in the afternoon with the free air freezing level at 2500′. Tuesday also looks sunny. The freezing level rises to 5500′. Not much to talk about in the next week or so other than high-quality groom. Enjoy!
Gorge Wind Forecast
Light to moderate westerlies will stick around for Friday and Saturday before 48 hours of calm on Sunday and Monday. For Friday, expect morning westerlies at 10-13 in the west and 7-10 out east. The wind will climb to gusty 21-25 ahead of a weather system by late morning. That wind will grace the western Gorge until early afternoon and then shift east. At that point, the wind in the west backs off to 12-15. River flow is 150kcfs and temp is a balmy 41 degrees.Saturday starts with calm wind. By sunrise-ish, the wind picks up to W 7-10 along the river. Afternoon wind builds to gusty 18-22 from Stevenson to Arlington. Sunday looks calm all day, and so does Monday. The current forecast for Tuesday is east wind at 20-25.
COAST, JONES, SAUVIE’S: Detailed forecast is on winter break.
