Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Dry and mostly sunny weather sticks around through Friday afternoon. Some sort of change arrives Friday night, but models are far from agreeing on the details of this change. We’ll have to wait it out and see… and it’s probably worth me saying that I’m going to take a day or two off this week due to the static weather situation!

For Monday, expect a sunny day on the mountain. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 0′ early and 4000′ in the afternoon, likely allowing corn snow to start to develop. It’ll probably be mixed in with patches of hardpack that may get sticky in the sun. No precip. Wind: light westerly early, W 10 in the afternoon, and SW 10 overnight.

Tuesday starts out clear. High clouds move in during the evening and go away after midnight. Free air freezing level: 4000′ early, 5500′ in the afternoon, 8000′ overnight. Wind: SW 10 early, W 20 in the afternoon, and NW 25 after midnight.

Wednesday looks sunny. FAF: 8000′ falling to 6500′ in the evening. Corn snow everywhere! Superbowl: probably a good day to hope for it. Wind: NW 25 early, NNW 15 in the afternoon, and NNE 10 overnight. Thursday: also sunny with corn snow. Friday: sunny with corn snow during the day and some snowfall overnight – anywhere from a trace to 6” if you look at the models. This is where we watch and wait. Enjoy the sunshine and corn snow this week!

Gorge Wind Forecast

West wind of some sort sticks around for the next few days as offshore high pressure mostly sticks around. For Monday, early wind will be W 10-13 in some places and W 5-10 in others. It appears the wind will go calm midday and return at 3-7mph this afternoon. River flow is 102kcfs and temp is 41 degrees. Tuesday starts light and variable and holds through midday. Afternoon wind picks up to W 14-17 from Stevenson to The Dalles. Wednesday starts with 17-20 from Stevenson to Arlington. Eastern Gorge wind backs off to 5-10, and western Gorge wind picks up to 21-24 from Stevenson to Doug’s, possibly as far east as Biggs.

COAST, JONES, SAUVIE’S: Detailed forecast is on winter break.

Hood River Weather Forecast

Clear sky this morning stays that way. Temps will be in the upper 20’s early and mid 50’s later. Light westerlies go calm midday and maybe return later. No rainbows. Tuesday looks clear in the morning with high clouds later. Good chance of a colorful sunset. Temps will be in the low 30’s early and upper 50’s in the afternoon. Light west wind early. Moderate westerlies later. No rainbows. Wednesday starts off mostly cloudy and ends partly cloudy. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and upper 50’s later. Moderate west wind. No rainbows. Next chance of any precip is Friday night.   Looking for a complete Columbia Gorge forecast? Looking for more humor in your weather? Obscenities? Cycling

Temps dipped into the 20’s on Monday morning, and that means we have a freeze-thaw alert. Please stay off exposed trails such as Kleeway, Seven Streams, Whoopdee, Hospital Hill, and Syncline (especially above the fence). Trails that thaw during the day will be susceptible to damage. Don’t do it!
