Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

A few more days of mostly-sunny weather are in the forecast for Mt. Hood before we see a switch to snow and much, much colder weather this weekend.

Tuesday looks sunny for a good portion of the day before high clouds move in. The sky clears again overnight. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 4000′ early, 6500′ in the afternoon, and 4000′ overnight. Sounds like great spring skiing! Wind: SW 15 early, W 20 in the afternoon, and W 30 overnight.

Wednesday sees clouds in the valleys below 4000′ with sunshine on the slopes. The FAF will be 4000′ early, 3000′ in the afternoon, and 1000′ overnight. Wind: W 30 in the morning, NW 20 in the afternoon, and NNW 20 after midnight.

One last day of clear sunny weather is in the forecast for Thursday. The FAF will be 1000′ early and 4000′ in the afternoon and evening. Wind: NNW 20 early, NW 10 in the afternoon, and W 15 overnight.

The general picture for Friday through Sunday is cold. Models suggest some snow will fall Friday afternoon through midday Saturday, but precipitation amounts are all over the place. Temp forecasts are also all over the place as models disagree on the southward progression of modified arctic air. Generally speaking, expect a transition to snow from sun on Friday, snowfall Saturday, and clear, cold weather Sunday. Exact details will have to wait. Enjoy the corn snow today!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Westerlies continue for a few more days… for Tuesday, the wind starts light and variable. A weak afternoon system sends the wind up to gusty 17-20 from Stevenson to Biggs. Wednesday starts with W 13-16 everywhere. Westerlies rise to 22-25 from Stevenson to Biggs in the afternoon. Thursday starts with W 12-15 from Stevenson to Swell. While models predict a light and variable afternoon, a more likely scenario is westerlies at 15-18 from Stevenson to Mosier.

COAST, JONES, SAUVIE’S: Detailed forecast is on winter break.

Cycling

Reports from yesterday indicated freeze-thaw conditions. Please stay off exposed trails such as Kleeway, Seven Streams, Whoopdee, Hospital Hill, and Syncline (especially above the fence). Trails that thaw during the day will be susceptible to damage. Don’t do it!
