Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

All the mountains are closed, the forest is closed, and neither in-bounds nor out-of-bounds snowsports are available at this time. Some of you will be tempted to go out backcountry skiing. Take a look at this sobering article about a recent BC rescue and consider carefully if you want to put others at risk. Remember, Timberline, Skibowl, and Meadows are all closed to uphill traffic at this time.

Low snow levels continue for the next few days before things warm up next week. For Friday, the mountain starts partly cloudy and may end with some instability and snow flurries. The snow level will be 1000′ early, 2500′ in the afternoon, and 500′ overnight. Just a trace of snow will fall during the day, and another trace falls overnight. Wind will be W 15 in the morning, WSW 15-20 in the afternoon, and SW 5-10 overnight.

Saturday looks sunny in the morning, cloudy midday, and snowy overnight. The snow level will be 500′ early and will climb to 3500′ overnight. A trace of snow falls before sunset, and about 0.2” water value (WV) falls overnight. Wind: SW 5-10 early, SSW 15-20 in the afternoon, and SSW 10-15 overnight.

Sunday looks snowy early, sunny in the afternoon, and cloudy overnight. The snow level will be 3500′ early and will rise to 5000′ overnight. Wind: SSW 10-15 early, S 10-15 in the afternoon, and E 20-25 overnight. After Sunday, the weather steadily warms through next week.

Gorge Wind Forecast

First, a public service announcement. All Oregon and Washington State Parks are closed at this time. All Port of Hood River waterfront access is closed at this time. The Army Corps has closed all parks. They have also closed boat ramps. Swell City is also closed. This is an order to obey. It’s not one to sneak around and find a way to get on the river instead. That’s especially for you locals – set a good example so you don’t have folks coming down here from Covid-19 epicenters to play on the river and shop at our stores.

The wind forecast for the next few days doesn’t contain all that much… for Friday, we start with W 10-13 in the west and 5-10 in the east. Westerlies slowly build to gusty 20-23 this afternoon from Rowena to Arlington. Saturday starts calm. Easterlies, yes easterlies, build as a low approaches the coast. Expect 20-25 midday in the west with 10-15 in the afternoon. Other locations in the Gorge will see 5-10mph out of the east. On Sunday, expect easterlies at 15-20 in the morning and calm wind in the afternoon.

COAST, JONES, SAUVIE’S: Detailed forecast is on winter break.

Hood River Weather Forecast

Partly cloudy sky this morning sticks around all day with a chance of a few of those rain/hail/snain downpours this afternoon. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and upper 40’s later. Moderate westerlies, no rainbows. Saturday looks mostly cloudy with light drizzle after 5pm. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and low 50’s later. Light east wind. No rainbows. Sunday looks cloudy in the morning and mostly cloudy in the afternoon. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and mid 50’s later. Light east wind early, calm in the afternoon. 5% chance of rainbows.   Looking for a complete Columbia Gorge forecast? Looking for more humor in your weather? Obscenities? Cycling

ALL trails in the Gorge are closed as of today. Hood River County (Post Canyon, Pinemont), SDS (Underwood, Whoopdee), and Kreps (Hospital Hill) lands are closed as of today to prevent the spread of coronavirus. There were two considerations: protecting medical professionals, and keeping crowds away when the weather climbs into the 60’s, maybe 70, next week. Please, please respect the closures.
