Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Hey everyone! Snow keeps on coming for a couple more days. After that, we move into a cool and unstable environment with the snowpack staying in excellent shape. Groomers will be awesome Saturday through Monday, at least. Actually, there’s little enough snow in the forecast that the groom will be great on Friday too. And we all know it’s good off piste! For Thursday night, the snow level will be around 1000′ with temps in the mid teens to low 20’s on the mountain. About 0.4” to 0.5” water equivalent (WE) is forecast by Friday morning for 4-6” dry powder. Wind: SW 25-40 overnight. Friday starts with a little snow, turns mostly clear, and then turns snowy again overnight. The snow level will be 0-1000′ early, 2500′ in the afternoon, and back down to 0-1000′ overnight. About 0.1” WE is forecast prior to sunrise for an inch of new. That’s it for the daytime. Overnight, another 0.4” WE is on the table for 5-6” dry powder. Wind: SW 20-35 in the morning, S 10-15 in the afternoon, SE 30 in the evening, and SW 15-30 overnight.
Saturday adds a few more inches of snow in the morning before the sun pops out in the afternoon. But wait! Instability could trigger some flurries in the afternoon, so it won’t be totally sunny by any means. The snow level will be 0-1000′ early, 1500′ in the afternoon, and 0-1000′ overnight. About 0.3” WE falls in the morning for 3-4” powder. Flurries could drop an inch or two in the afternoon and evening, but they also might now. That’s instability for you. Wind: SW 20-30 all morning, WSW 25-30 in the afternoon, and SSW 10-20 overnight.
Intermittent flurries are forecast on Sunday with interspersed sunbreaks. Given that the precip is driven by instability, it’s hard to say how much snow will fall. Less than a 2” is probably a safe call. Snow level: 0′ early, 1000′ in the afternoon, and back to 0′ overnight. Wind: SSW 10-20 early, NW 10-20 in the afternoon, and NW 15-20 overnight. Monday looks mostly clear with some instability-driven flurries in the afternoon. Snow level: 0-1000′. Wind: NW 10-20. Cool weather continues through the extended forecast, probably. After Thursday, model agreement really breaks down. All-in-all, it looks like a great week of skiing!

Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends! Light east wind on Friday morning switches to westerlies in the afternoon. The western Gorge should pick up to 11-14 from Stevenson to Swell. Central: 7-10. Eastern Gorge wind, Amayah’s to Boardman, rises to gusty 21-24 for a few hours late morning. You’d better be preemptive about it, because it’ll fall to 14-17 after 1pm. River flow Friday was 81-132kcfs, river temp is 42.2F, and high temp forecast is 44F. Expect intermittent rain near Hood River. Saturday starts with less than 10mph. By late morning, the wind picks up to 10-13 from Stevenson to Doug’s. You should find gusty 20-23 from Avery to Boardman from late morning to mid-afternoon. The wind drops to 10-13 after that. Also in play: unstable air in the afternoon. Possible light snow in the morning. Rain showers after. High temp: 43F. Sunday’s wind will be light and variable. High temp: 43F and mostly cloudy.

Temps start in the upper 20’s and rise to the low 40’s. Light westerlies. 99% chance of rainbows. Sunday starts mostly dry with Nothing or maybe even a little light snow. Mostly dry weather midday adds showers and hail later. Light and variable wind. 84% chance of rainbows. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. On Fridays at 2:30pm, there’s a free meditation and stretching class at Yoga Samadhi. On Saturday at 9am, there’s a by-donation outdoor group fitness on the 2rd floor deck about Ferment Brewing.
Cycling
Sisterwives and Kleeway in Post Canyon are closed until further notice for rebuilding. Regarding the trails in general: don’t ride in the mud. You’ll damage the trails. Don’t ride trails if it was below freezing the previous night and is above freezing when you want to ride. Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Hey everyone! The snow just keeps on coming on Mt. Hood. It was gorgeous up there today – so much snow on the trees. So far today, there’s been five inches of new with about an inch of water in it. That’s Cascade Concrete. That was atop the 9” last night and 32” from the previous couple of days. Current snow water equivalent (SWE) at the Mt. Hood Test Site (5370′): 84 percent. How much more is coming? Well, models like the idea of 3-4.25” additional water equivalent (WE) by Monday night. That’s several more feet of snow. Yay. It’s probably worth mentioning that the wet snow Wednesday night into Thursday could result in icing problems Thursday morning.
Very heavy precip is forecast Wednesday night into Thursday – 1.0” WE. The snow level will bump up to 5500′ for a period and fall back to 2000-2500′ by Thursday morning. Let’s call that 4-7” wet new snow. Wind: SW 35-65 overnight. Snow, of a much more powdery sort, falls all day Thursday and into Thursday night. The snow level will be 2500′ early, 1500′ mid-morning, and 0-1000′ overnight. About 0.5” WE falls during the day for 5-6” relatively dry new snow. Another 0.4” WE is forecast in the evening for 4-5” dry powder. Wind: W 40 in the morning, WSW 25-40 in the afternoon, SW 20-35 in the evening, and WSW 25-30 overnight.
Friday will be cool and snowy. The snow level will be 1000′ or less all day. About 0.3” WE falls during the day for 3-4” dry powder. Another 0.2” WE falls in evening, and then the sky will turn partly cloudy. That’s a couple more inches of snow. Wind: WSW 25-30 early, SW 25-40 mid-morning, SW 20-30 in the afternoon, and SW 15-25 overnight.
Light snow continues Saturday daytime with the snow level at 2000′ or less. Moderate wind. Snow tapers off overnight and then returns for Sunday. Cool weather sticks around, and snow surface conditions remain awesome. Enjoy!

Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends! Best chance for wind in the next few days is Saturday, but models are far from unanimous in offering up wind that day. For Thursday, we’ll have less than 10mph in the western Gorge and W 11-14 east of The Dalles to start. Come mid-afternoon, the wind picks up to gusty 22-25 from Avery to Arlington with 10-13 west of The Dalles. River flow Wednesday was 128kcfs (the site with the range is down again), river temp is 42.08F, and high temp forecast is 45F. Oh, it’ll be rainy. Friday starts with E 10-15 at Stevenson and Iwash (Rooster) Rock. The wind drops to “light” midday and turns around to W 10 at Iwash in the afternoon. High temp: 45F with flurries or snain early, dry weather midday, and rain later. Saturday starts with W 11-14 all through the Gorge. Models maybe take the wind up to the mid-20’s east of The Dalles to Boardman in the afternoon. Maybe. Let’s not make plans yet. High temp: 42F with flurries in the morning and showers in the afternoon. Sun out east. Sunday will probably bring back the easterlies, but not enough easterlies for river play.
