Gorge Wind Forecast
We’re just about to enter another stretch of very hot weather, during which the wind will do some switching around between easterly and westerly. The direction will be driven mostly by the location of the heat low. The location of the heat low, honestly, won’t matter for the heat – it’s just going to be really hot and increasingly smoky everywhere!
So, for today, we’ll have a pleasant day with west wind. The 6am gradients were .07 (pdx-dls) and .04 (dls-psc). I expect the eastern Gorge gradients and wind will fade quickly today as the clouds burn off and high pressure builds to the west. For the first few hours of the day, areas east of Mosier will see 12-15 or so. After that, expect calm to light wind in those locations. For the western Gorge, we’ll have 17-20 from Viento to Swell for a few hours this morning. The GFS thinks the wind will fade a little bit, holding at 14-17 between Cascade Locks and Hood River until sunset. Given the extent of the marine clouds this morning, I wouldn’t be surprised to see 20-23 for a period this morning and 17-20 through sunset.
Everything changes tomorrow as high pressure builds over the entire Northwest. We’ll have light easterlies early and late, with a peak of 15-20 near Cascade Locks and Stevenson midday. Saturday looks stronger, with 25-30 near Rooster Rock and 20-25 near Stevenson for the first half of the day. The wind will fade after noon, backing off to 5-10 after 2pm for all locations.
If models are correct about Sunday, the heat low will shift to the east of the Cascades, setting up a blazing hot west wind day. We’ll start with W 5-10 in the morning. The wind will slowly build in the afternoon to 13-16 between Stevenson and Hood River.

Random Morning Thoughts
I’m sitting here thinking about what to write, and I’m noticing that I’m putting a lot of pressure on myself to come up with something. That, of course, is making it less likely that I’ll think of anything interesting to say. Instead of sitting in this dynamic, I think I’ll step out of it and go mountain biking. I hope your day is lovely and awesome!

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
The Mt. Hood snow forecast is currently on vacation. It will stay on vacation until I deem it to be close enough to winter that we need a Mt. Hood snow forecast. Be safe out there on the snow this summer!
Have an awesome day today!
