Gorge Wind Forecast
For all of you who are tired from a long stretch of windy weather – kiting, windsurfing, paddling downwind – this is your rest day. We’ll see west wind at 5-10 all day from Cascade Locks to The Dalles. This will be a great day for a less-extreme sport like SUP, road biking, or mountain biking in the quiet woods. Oh wait, we #GorgeNormal people can make any sport into an adventure sport!
Looking at Tuesday… the trough of low pressure that flattened Monday’s gradients will shift a touch further east, allowing a bit more cross-Cascade gradient to develop. That said, there’s an offshore low pressure system that will keep the wind in the “moderate” range. We’ll have 12-15 from Cascade Locks to Mosier to start the day. The wind will slowly build to 15-18 in the afternoon. Something that I can’t quite discern happens late in the day to bump the wind up to gusty 21-24 after 5pm from Cascade Locks to Rufus. How’s that for transparency? Inexact science, this wind forecasting stuff!
Looking at Wednesday, that offshore low loses strength and moves inland in the afternoon, allowing the offshore high to have more influence over the wind pattern. As of this morning, it looks like we’ll see 21-25 from Viento to Rufus int eh morning with gusty 23-26 from Cascade Locks to Rufus in the afternoon.
A weak frontal system moves inland on Thursday morning bringing clouds to Hood River. This will shift the wind further east, and probably make it gusty as well. That said, we’re looking at gusty 24-28 all day Thursday, with the strongest wind likely from Lyle to Rufus.

Random Morning Thoughts
I’m having one of those mornings where waking up is an extended process. Thankfully the wind is light today. I don’t need a lot of brain power to make an accurate prediction. So, I think I’ll pass on reflecting on life until I wake up a little more. Ya gotta know when to throw in the towel… Have an awesome day!

We’ll have yet another sunny day today. Temps will be in the upper 50’s early and the low 80’s this afternoon. Light wind. No rainbows. Tuesday looks sunny. Temps will be in the mid 50’s early and the mid 80’s in the afternoon. Light to moderate wind. No rainbows. Wednesday looks sunny with some high clouds and a colorful sunset possible late. Temps will be in the upper 50’s early and the low 80’s in the afternoon. Moderate wind. No rainbows. We’re probably going to start off Thursday with clouds and maybe even a few scattered raindrops.

Road and Mountain Biking
All the mtb trails locally are open. This will change next week when Hospital Hill and Whoopdee will likely close for the summer due to fire danger. Ride them now. Moto is now done for the season in Hood River County, as we are at IFPL 3. Today looks like a great day for road biking – light wind.
Upcoming Events
Events today start with meditation at noon at trinity natural medicine and $5 Tai Chi at the Hood River Adult Center at 2:30. There’s pickup kickball – and who doesn’t like kickball? – at Daubenspeck Park in Bingen at 6. The Gorge sailing team will take you for a boat ride at the Hood River Marina between 6 and 7:30 tonight. There are three by-donation yoga classes tonight: 6 o’clock at Samadhi in WhiteSalmon, 6:30 at the Mt. Hood Town Hall, and 6:45 at Pure Yoga in Hood River. There’s Community Meditation at Bethel Congregational Church in White Salmon at 7 tonight.
Later this week, Wednesday through Sunday, Cascade Locks has sailboat races. The Gorge Downwind Championships race will run on the windiest day between Thursday and Saturday with other events scheduled starting today – be prepared for lots of people paddling downwind all week. Big Winds has a free foilboard clinic on Thursday and Friday with Alex Aguera and Dave Kalama as well as a meet n’ greet with those two uber-athletes on Wednesday afternoon.
Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
The Mt. Hood snow forecast is currently on vacation. It will stay on vacation until I deem it to be close enough to winter that we need a Mt. Hood snow forecast. Be safe out there on the snow this summer!
