Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Gorge Wind Forecast

If you’re in Hood River and looking out your window, you know it’s not going to be a great day for wind. Why? Because it’s 100% cloudy! It’s also cloudy all the way to the Idaho border, suggesting it’s going to be a gusty day, all day long. A weak weather system late this afternoon will bump up the wind speeds a bit, but will do nothing to de-gustify the wind. Expect up-and-down 10-15 this morning from Stevenson all the way out to Arlington with rain falling west of Hood river. We should see 13-16 from Mosier to Rufus by noon. After 2pm or so, the wind will pick up to gusty 21-24 from Mosier to Arlington, with speeds remaining in the teens between Stevenson and Hood River.

High pressure builds inland on Friday, and that sets up a lighter wind day. We’ll have 5-10mph under partly cloudy sky for much of the day. Late in the day, the wind will pick up just a bit to 10-13 from Stevenson to Covfefe.

Gorge Wind Forecast, continued.

Saturday looks nice. Before I get into the forecast, I want to let you know that CGWA and Washington State Parks have a work party at the Hatchery at 9am on Saturday. Since you’ll be there, please give them a hand cleaning up hazard trees and brush. This is your big chance to give back to your favorite park. Carpe diem! High pressure offshore combines with low pressure inland to set up solid gradients through the Gorge. Looks like we’ll see 24-28 to start the day from Hood River to Rufus. In the afternoon, the wind will fill in all the way to Bighorn Sheep Land, also known as Arlington. It’s worth mentioning that there are some weather dynamics happening late Saturday, so the best wind is likely to be morning through mid-afternoon.

Sunday benefits from an increased marine layer and strong offshore high pressure. As of right now, we’re looking at Dawn Patrol at 24-28 from Mosier to Arlington. If the morning clouds burn back a bit, and I think they will, we’ll see 28-32 from Hood River to Boardman in the afternoon. Monday now looks like it’ll max out at 22-25. River temp is currently 56 degrees and river flow is 458kcfs at Bonneville.

Random Morning Thoughts

Cat woke me up early this morning, and I just don’t have extra energy to think. Enjoy the clouds, and have an awesome day!

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Weather Forecast

If it were a bit darker outside, it would look a lot like winter. Instead, it’s just gray with scattered sprinkles. Temps will be in the low 60’s this morning and upper 60’s this afternoon. Light to moderate westerlies. 49% chance of rainbows. Friday looks partly cloudy. Temps will be in the low 50’s early and the mid 70’s in the afternoon. Light wind. No rainbows. Saturday looks like Friday, only a lot windier.
