Sunday. And now for a change in the weather…

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Although today is starting off clear on Mt. Hood, we’ll see clouds move in this afternoon and a few flurries or sprinkles overnight. The snow level will be 10,000′ early, slowly falling to 5500′ after midnight. No accumulation, most likely, unless this weather system comes further south. Wind today will be SW 20 in the morning, becoming W 30 in the afternoon and falling to WSW 15 after midnight. Continued after the chart…

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…

Monday may start off foggy or partly cloudy, but it’ll turn cloudy mid-morning and stay that way for the rest of the day. The freezing level on Monday will be 5500′-6000′ all day, dropping to 2000′ after midnight. It’s possible we’ll see a few snowflakes, but there won’t be any accumulation. Wind on Monday will be WSW 10 early, W 20 in the evening, and WSW 30 after midnight.

Tuesday looks snowy on the mountain. The snow level will be 2000′ in the morning, dropping to the surface (in the Gorge, anyway) in the evening. The mountain will receive .2” water value (WV) between 4am and 4pm for a couple inches of new snow. Another .2” WV arrives overnight, for another 2-3” of fluffy pow. Wind on Tuesday will be WSW 25-30 all day long.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished

Wednesday looks cold and snowy. The snow level will be at the surface, and temps on the mountain will be in the teens. Models are in conflict over the location and quantity of precipitation on Wednesday, so we’re just going to have to wait and see. It does look like we’ll get half a foot of snow or so on Wednesday night, followed by more snow on Thursday. It may also be snowing at your house during this time period…

Gorge Wind Forecast

East wind at 40-50 this morning may switch to light west wind later in the day. Monday looks calm early with E 15-20 midday and calm wind in the evening. Tuesday looks light and variable. Wednesday looks like E 15-20 in the morning and 40+ in the evening. Thursday brings E 50 early and E 60 in the evening. Friday starts with E 60 and drops to E 40.

Random Morning Thoughts

I received an interesting email recently by someone demanding to know what I’ve done in the past to protect certain oppressed groups. I find myself curious about people’s past – life experiences can tell you a lot about a person, and conversation can help build a deeper connection with another person.

That said, I believe with all my hearts that we humans evolve and are not defined by our pasts. Life events, national events, world events, all of these can cause a dramatic shift in worldview or behavior over a short period of time.

Sometimes we find ourselves feeling guilty for things we may have done or not done in the days and years before today. Guilt, as you may have noticed, feels unpleasant. Guilt is a way of beating ourselves down. When we wallow in it, we cannot grow.

Instead, we can look at our past and create intentions to act differently in the future. Committing to new courses of action and doing our best to repair any past damage makes us stronger, kinder, and more compassionate. We can’t undo the things we’ve done. But we can take steps to release the burden of the past. Small repairs, small changes in thinking, and small changes in behaving will have a big impact on how we feel inside.

The past doesn’t rule you. You do. Make choices to be a better human going forward. Have an awesome day.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Weather Forecast

The Nothing is present this morning, and will likely stick around all day unless the wind switches to west, in which case the clouds will break up. A few flurries or sprinkles may fall from it as a weather system hangs out to the N this evening. Temps will be in the low 30’s early and mid 30’s later. East wind may be followed by light westerlies. Monday looks cloudy with light rain/sleet/freezing rain overnight. Temps will be in the low 30’s early and the mid 30’s in the afternoon. Tuesday looks cloudy with wet snow at river level and snow up high. Models vary, so call it 1-5” depending on location and elevation. Temps will be in the low 30’s early and the mid 30’s in the afternoon. East wind. No rainbows.
