Thursday. Want sun? It’s up and to the west.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

It’s a partly cloudy morning with flurries on Mt. Hood. As the day goes on, the flurries will fade and the sky will eventually clear. The free air freezing level will be near the surface early, rising to 2500′ in the evening. Wind will be NW 10 early and NE 5 in the afternoon.

Friday looks clear on the mountain. The inversion will strengthen during the day, with cold low clouds in the valley and clear, clean warmer air on the hill. The free air freezing level will be 2500′ early and 6500′ in the afternoon, rising to 8000′ after midnight. Wind will be light and variable all day. Continued after the chart…

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…

Saturday looks clear and warm on the mountain with temps in the low 40’s at 5000′. You can make the determination if this is t-shirt weather or not. Either way, it’ll be a gorgeous day (although the snow may get sticky late – hard to say) in the sunshine. The wind will be light all day on Saturday.

Sunday sees the beginning of a pattern change from dry high pressure to a more active weather system. The mountain should be sunny for much of the day, but high clouds will move in during the afternoon. The snow level will be 9000′ for much of the day, falling to 8000′ in the afternoon. A trace to .2” of rain will fall in the evening. Wind on Sunday will be SW 10 early, rising to W 35 in the afternoon.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished

Looking toward the middle of next week, the GFS is being pretty consistent about bringing a warm and wet system in over the top of the cold air at the surface. Looks like precip (probably snow at first) will start around 9pm Tuesday, continuing in moderate to heavy form at least through Thursday morning. At this point, it’s hard to tell the exact proportions of snow/sleet/rain, but I’m thinking we’ll see all three.

Keep a very close watch on the forecast for the Portland metro area, especially the east Portland metro area. Also watch the forecast for the Gorge if you have any business out there.

Gorge Wind Forecast

Random Morning Thoughts

I woke up late this morning after a restful night of sleep. It’s getting late already, so I think it’s best if I post this forecast and let both of us get on with our days. Have an awesome day!

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Weather Forecast

Looks like Nothing day with a slight chance of broken Nothing later. Temps will be in the low 30’s early and mid to upper 30’s later. Light wind. No rainbows. Slight chance of drizzle. Friday looks exactly the same, with one caveat that it’s more likely to be below 32 than above 32 in the morning. Saturday looks just like Friday: increasing inversion, east wind, no rainbows, blah, blah, blah. Get above 1500′ or so and you should be able to find sunshine.
