Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

If you’re hoping for snow on the mountain, there are good things in this forecast for you. Over the last 24 hours, the predicted 5000′ temps for the Tuesday and Thursday weather systems have come down quite a bit. Both of those systems have a fair bit of moisture, so if nothing changes between now and then, we’ll see a sizeable dumping of snow next week. Fingers crossed that the models don’t swing back to warmer between now and then! Continued after the chart…

For today, Saturday, we first have a couple of events: Meadows has a “preview” day with a rail jam. The rail jam park is open 3pm to 7pm and is free to the public. Timberline is hoping to open Bruno and Palmer today, weather permitting. It currently looks very foggy up there. Anyway… today’s weather: Expect a cloudy day with on and off snow flurries early with a on and off wet flurries or mixed precip after 1pm. The snow level will be 5000′ early and 6000′ or a touch higher after 1pm. We’ll see less than 1” of new snow today. Wind will be SW 30 early and SW 15 in the afternoon and evening.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished

Sunday starts off cloudy and turns snowy (hopefully – there’s a chance it’ll be mixed precip) around 10am, continuing through 4pm. A second round of snow hits around 1am. The snow level will be between 5000′ and 5500′ during the day, dropping to 4000′ or so with the overnight round of snow. We’ll see .2-.3” water value (WV) during the day, for 1-2” of new snow at most. We’ll see another .2-.3” WV overnight, for 2-3” of snow. Wind on Sunday will be SW 30 early, fading to SW 20 in the afternoon and turning to WSW 30 in the evening.

Monday brings on and off snow flurries interspersed with sunshine. The sky should clear in the afternoon. The snow level will be 4000′ early and 2500′ later in the day. We’ll see less than 1” of new snow on Monday. Wind will be in the W 20-25 range all day.

Tuesday starts off clear, turns cloudy in the afternoon, and ends up snowy overnight. As of right now, it looks like the snow level will be around 4000′ on Tuesday night, but that could change. Models currently show .4-.6” WV Tuesday night, for 4-6” of new snow. Snow flurries continue Wednesday. Yesterday’s model runs showed Thursday’s system with a 6500′ snow level. Today’s run shows a 4000′ snow level. Fingers crossed for the lower one, because there’s significant moisture associated with this system.

Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s rainy and windy in the western Gorge on this cloudy Saturday morning. Expect easterlies at 35-40 or so at Iwash (Rooster) Rock through early afternoon. Steven’s Locks should join in with 20-25 mid-morning. Both locations will back off to E 15-20 late in the afternoon. Sunday starts with a quick burst of E 15-20 and switches just as quickly to W 5-10. Monday looks like W 15-18 for most of the day from Mosier to Arlington with W 10-13 from Steven’s Locks to Bingen.

Road and Mountain Biking

It’s still to muddy to ride in Post Canyon without messing up the trails. It’s too muddy to ride the Whoopdee. It’s probably even too muddy at Syncline, but maybe not. It’s too muddy to ride Hospital Hill. Instead of messing up the trails, you could come to a work party on the Whoopdee Trail today. More info below. In road biking news, it’s wet, cold and rainy. Have fun!
