Monday-Tuesday Enjoy the dry weather through Wednesday. The Atmospheric River returns Thursday.

There really isn’t all that much to say in the wind forecast this week. Expect light and variable wind all day on Monday. As high pressure over the region intensifies on Tuesday, east wind will arrive. Expect 10-15 early on Tuesday morning with 25-30 at Rooster and Steven’s Locks mid-morning through early afternoon. Wednesday starts…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Gorge wind forecast, continued…

The latter half of the week looks very, very wet as a series of powerful systems hit the PNW. As a result of that, we’ll see periods of up-and-down, gusty wind. The best chance of finding play-worthy wind will require a drive out to the far east desert. Even then, you may just find rain. We’ll have to wait and see.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Click here for your 2016-2017 ski season forecast. We have a few dry days early this week. That will be followed by massive precipitation later this week. Sadly, that precip will occur with a 10,000 (or so) snow level. Ski season is definitely not imminent.

Random Morning Thoughts

Most of us like people. Sure, some of us say, “I hate people”, but then we reach out to have a conversation about that, indicating that somewhere inside, the opposite is true. We spend time getting to know other people, we develop friendships, we create families… But on some level, we project a lot of our own expectations and experiences on our friendships. That flattens, dulls, limits our experience of others.

As a counselor, I am expected to set aside my experiences and see people (as much as I can) exactly as they are. For me, this way of being caused a profound shift in the way I experience other human beings.

Seeing other people objectively (not as objects, mind you!) brings their complexity into clear view. Each person, while still remaining whole, also becomes a unique collection of thoughts, emotions, behaviors, wounds, relationships, etc. Each of these components shines forth into the world like a star in the vastness of the universe. Each person is a universe of points of light, blazing outward in an attempt to find a clear path and nourishing way through the world.

It’s a shift worth experiencing – see if you can relate to another human being while leaving yourself out of the picture. Their actions, thoughts, behaviors, etc., have nothing to do with you. They are just this person’s way of being in the world. If you can do this, you will likely find yourself awestruck at the complexity of each of us. We are truly awesome. Have an awesome day.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 51 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Weather Forecast

Looks like it’s going to be a nice day out there. Plenty of sunshine. Expect temps in the upper 40’s early and the mid 60’s this afternoon. Light wind all day. No rainbows. Tuesday might see some Nothing in the morning, but should become sunny by mid morning, at the latest. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and the low 60’s in the afternoon. Light easterlies. No rainbows. Wednesday starts out sunny and sees high clouds move in late in the day. Temps will be near 40 early and in the low 60’s in the afternoon. Light wind. No rainbow.s. Look for heavy rain starting Thursday morning and continuing through the weekend. Work mentioning is the fact that the GFS is currently predicting a 965mb low pressure system to spin off the coast on Thursday and Friday. That’s followed by a 955mb low on Saturday. Whoa. Good thing they are predicted to stay offshore!

Road and Mountain Biking

I’m a little out of the loop right now on trail conditions. Given the fact that we’ve had 1.79” of rain so far this month, I’m guessing Post is currently rather slippery. I am certain that one of you will check for me today. Hospital Hill, Whoopdee, and Syncline (first mention since last spring!) should be in great shape. In road biking news, today looks like a light and variable day with some sunshine. Enjoy! I’d especially recommend you enjoy the trails, as they will be good through Wednesday and then gone for a while due to an incoming atmospheric river.

Upcoming Events

Happy Monday. There’s Zen tradition Lovingkindness meditation at Trinity Natural Medicine at noon and Tai Chi at the Mt. Hood Town Hall at 1. At 5, there’s a walking happiness group leaving One Community Health in The Dalles. There’s pickup kickball at Daubenspeck Park in Bingen at 6 and free yoga (by donation) at Samadhi at 6. At 6:30, there’s pickup basketball at the Mt. Hood Town Hall, Zumba at St. Francis House in Odell and the Parkdale Community Center. There’s YogaFaith (Christ-centered Yoga) at Pure Yoga in The Dalles at 6:45.

One more from the spirituality category: there’s Thai Forest Theravada Buddhist-led meditation at Samadhi in White Salmon tomorrow night at 6:30. That is my favorite weekly event. Nice people. Peaceful. Coming up this weekend… the atmospheric river arrives. Not sure what other events are going on, but there are going to be some very happy elite-level whitewater boaters.

Have an awesome day today!

Temira
