The wind has backed off enough this morning for the unicorns to turn off alarm clocks and sleep the deep sleep of hibernating magical creatures. After the last week or so, they’ve earned this rest, so don’t begrudge them a day off. They’ll be back soon. In the meantime, today will be a lighter wind day, as we start with .o4 (pdx-dls) and .04 (dls-psc) with 135kcfs flowing out of The Dalles Dam. Continued after the chart…

We move into a completely different weather setup starting tomorrow. The overall picture will be spring-like, with frontal systems moving through at various times during the weekend. Forecasting will be tricky, I’m sorry to say, with rain and system timing playing a big role. That said, you can expect 16-19 from Viento to Mosier Thursday morning. As a frontal system moves in during the afternoon, the wind will die off at Stevenson and possibly Hood River, depending on how far east the rain advances. East of the rain on Thursday afternoon will be westerlies at gusty 24-27, probably from Hood River to Arlington.
Friday sees a stalled weather system over the Northwest, making for, once again, tricky forecasting. As of now, it looks like we’ll see light wind – W 5-10 or so – in the morning with 22-25 east of Mosier in the afternoon. The long range, unreliable, subject to changes forecast currently suggest 15-18 on Saturday with 26-30 on Sunday.

Random Morning Thoughts
Some days ya just gotta set aside the work and find some time to play. Like today. Like now. Like… no random thoughts because I need to ride my bike before I sit in front of a computer and in a classroom all day. Have an awesome day!
Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be in 700 days). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.
Gorge Weather Forecast
It’s a beautiful, sunny day today, and you’d better get out and enjoy it. There are just two sunny days left before we transition back into spring for the weekend. Moderate to strong wind. 28% chance of rainbows. Friday looks partly to mostly cloudy and showery. Temps will be in the upper 50’s early and the low 70’s in the afternoon. White Sprinter Van of the Day
Road and Mountain Biking
Still no positive word on Gunsight. In other trail news, the snow level will dip down to around 6500′ on Saturday, so you may want to consider spending your cycling time at lower elevations. Or maybe you like cold rain, in which case, please go ride up high. Speaking of riding up high, Trailgate is Saturday, with free demos and other fun stuff going on at Billy Bob snopark off the 44 Road. Hmm. Bad combo. Maybe break out your goretex raingear and get some tacky Fifteenmile trail? Yum!
Upcoming Events
Today’s events include free yoga at 8:30 at the Heartgate Sanctuary in Oak Grove, ping pong at the Hood River Armory at 5, and the women’s post n’ pinot bike ride at 5:30 at Dirty Fingers. Tomorrow afternoon is the race-pace Post n’ Pint bike ride from Dirty Fingers. Ride for a couple of hours, head back to the shop, and they’ll give you a pint of beer as a reward.
Looking at the weekend, Trailgate 2016 is at Billy Bob snowpark on Saturday, with free mountain bike demos and live music. The Larch Mountain Uphill Time Trial is Sunday in Corbett. The Kiteboarding association has a free kite demo day on the Hood River Sandbar on Sunday, and Skibowl is hosting mountain bike races Friday through Sunday.
Have an awesome day today!
