There wasn’t much happening on the river at 7am, with wind speeds in the single digits to low double-digits. Gradients supporting this not-much-happening were .03 (pdx-dls) and .01 (dls-psc). Before I forget, river temp is 64 degrees, flow at The Dalles is 197kcfs, and 2638 Chinook made it past Bonneville Dam yesterday, meaning I’m going to the fish stand at Windance to get some Chinook this afternoon. Back to the wind forecast, we will see the wind pick up some this afternoon, but not a lot, as high pressure extending inland keeps the gradients from building much. Continued after the chart…

Gorge wind forecast, continued…
Expect light wind from Stevenson to Hood River and 7-10 or less other places through midday. The wind will pick up a little bit this afternoon, perhaps to 13-16, or maybe 15-18, from Stevenson to the Dalles.
Monday looks interesting. Strong high pressure offshore combines with a trough of low pressure and a weak front pushing in from Alaska in the afternoon to create strong cross-Cascade gradients. All this “stuff” moving around in the atmosphere isn’t an ideal condition. That said… Expect Dawn Patrol at 21-24 from Viento to Mosier. As the weather pushes in after 1pm, clouds and showers will impact the western Gorge, shutting off the wind as far east as say… hmm… approximately Mosier? East of Mosier, all the way to Idaho, you can expect 28-32 tomorrow. Now… this is one of those setups that is not ideal for the Maryhill section of river, which requires precise coordination between wind direction, river angle, and a the wing flaps of hummingbirds in Venezuela. In other words, Avery, Doug’s, Arlington and Threemile are more sure things on Monday.

See below for details.
Looking at Tuesday, a trough of low pressure will be over the region, bringing showers and clouds in the west. We’ll start off Tuesday with westerlies at 10-13, and we’ll see them build to gusty 22-25 in the afternoon.
For those of you wondering about Rock Creek Beach, here’s your update. First, there’s lots of heavy equipment and excavation work in the area, so it’s closed until that’s done. Next, the outflow pipe from the sewage treatment plant was damaged in the oil spill, and discussions regarding how to repair/replace this are ongoing, and that could impact when Rock Creek reopens. In other words, there’s no timeframe yet.
Finally, I’ll just keep reminding you of this one: CGWA has a bunch of contests happening this summer – photo, Strava, and video. Get more information about those contests right here.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Monday sees the snow level drop to 4000′ in the afternoon with 2-3” of new snow overnight. Tuesday looks snowy with the snow level at 4000′ early and 5500′ in the afternoon. 1-2” of additional accumulation.
Random Morning Thoughts
There are very few people out there who really totally have their s**t together, and most of us wish we had a greater sense of solidity and certainty about our worth and our capabilities. If you have doubts about yourself, you’re not the only one, and that’s what makes you human! Take some solace in that!
Anyway, most of us take a global approach to this quest for self-worth. We want to feel a certain way all of the time, across all domains of our lives. Unfortunately, that’s just not how our mind-body works. We’ll feel sure of ourselves in some domains and uncertain in others. For example, I feel solid when I turn my attention to others and offer them a listening ear and support. When I find myself in need of the same, I’m less certain, because I too am an imperfect and preciously flawed human being.
Anyway, it’s my belief that we can increase our confidence and solidity by placing ourselves in situations where those things are there, and by paying careful attention to how it feels to have the certainty we desire. You may find yourself feeling heavier. Maybe you feel like there are less filters between you and your experience. Maybe you notice your feet on the ground. Solidity is different for everyone. The point is this – if you pay attention to your certainty in one domain, that neural network with become stronger, and you’ll be more likely to find it in other domains.
Have I told you you’re awesome, even though you aren’t perfect? You are beautiful, you are perfect, just the way you are.. Have an awesome day.

Gorge Weather Forecast
It’s a sunny morning out there with just the slightest touch of Nothing in the air (no, those aren’t marine clouds, they are Nothing clouds due to the chill, damp air). Temps will be in the upper 40’s this morning and the mid 70’s this afternoon. Lgith wind early, moderate later. No rainbows.
Monday starts off sunny, but a weak afternoon frontal system will probably bring showers, and will most definitely bring a wall of clouds. Temps will be in the low 50’s early and the mid 60’s in the afternoon. Showers start up around 2-4pm and continue overnight. Strong wind. 56% chance of rainbows.
Tuesday looks showery all day long, especially west of Mosier. Temps will be in the low 50’s early and the low 60’s in the afternoon. Light wind, maybe moderate late. 99.9999999% chance of rainbows.

White Sprinter Van of the Day
Road and Mountain Biking
I went out and inspected trails for you yesterday (this is becoming a common occurrence, thankfully), and they were PERFECT. Post was amazing. I had a report that Fifteenmile was amazing, and that doesn’t happen often, so you’ll want to ride it right now this very instant. In biking news, this morning looks awesome: light wind and sunshine. Looking ahead to this week, we’re supposed to receive some rain most days, so we should have an epic week of riding on tap.
Upcoming Events
Today’s events include an Enduro mountain bike race at Skibowl. There are three free yoga classes today: 9 at Samadhi in White Salmon, 4 at Pure Yoga in The Dalles, and 6 at Pure Yoga Hood River. There’s also ping pong at the Hood River Armory at 10, pickleball at May Street Elementary at 1, and pickup Ultimate Frisbee at Westside Elementary at 5. For the spiritually minded, there’s meditation and conversation at Flow at 11am.
In trail news, the Twin Tunnels are open from the Hood River side through the tunnels, but the gate is closed at the east end of the tunnel. So, if you want to U-Pick cherries in Mosier, you will have to drive. Fifteenmile trail is now open, and the dirt pretty much everywhere is riding great right now from the rain. There are 20-30 trees down on the 450 trail. Complete list of trails: here.
Have an awesome day today!
