There’s just enough breeze this morning to move the air around in my house, taking away yesterday’s remaining heat and replacing it with the overnight chill. According to the models, what you see is what you get today. Actually, the models are prediciting the wind will back off midday and pick back up to morning levels this afternoon. I suppose that’s a possibility, but we did have .10 (pdx-dls) at 6am, and that indicates to me that we’ll see the wind continue today. So, let’s go with 15-18 from Viento to Swell this morning, with 10-13 further east. The wind will back off to 12-15 from Viento to Hood River mid-morning. Later this afternoon, the wind will pick up to 15-18 from Stevenson to Arlington as a weak weather system approaches. Continued after the chart…

Gorge wind forecast, continued…
A big ol’ marine push arrives tonight, ramping up the gradients and the wind. Offshore high pressure isn’t as strong as we’d like it to be for a super-nuker of a day. However, a 15 degree drop in high temp for tomorrow, resulting in a 15 degree cross-Cascade temp gradient sets us up for a windy day. The exact speeds/location will be determined by the cloud line, but here’s my best guess.

See below for details.
Stevenson starts out light. Viento to Hood River starts with gusty 15-18. Mosier to Arlington starts with 22-25. By the afternoon, we’ll have gusty 23-26 from Stevenson to Hood River with 30+ from Mosier eastward. Strongest wind should be Rowena to Arlington, with 35-40 possible, but not certain. There is a chance that desert thunderstorms could throw a monkey wrench in all this…
Thursday sees a trough of low pressure move over the region, continuing the deep marine layer. We’ll see 10-13 from Stevenson to Hood River early with 13-16 further east. Afternoon wind should be 26-30 from Mosier to Maryhill with 23-26 further east. Friday currently looks like light W early with 22-25 in the afternoon.
Finally, I’ll just keep reminding you of this one: CGWA has a bunch of contests happening this summer – photo, Strava, and video. Get more information about those contests right here.

It is entirely possible that the snow level will drop down around 6000′ on Saturday, leading to an inch or a few of new snow.
Random Morning Thoughts
I got home from school late last night and woke up early this morning because I have a lot on my plate today (including a final, ack!). So.. that’s my excuse for letting myself off the hook on getting all philosophical this morning. Y’all have an awesome day!
Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be in 716 days). I am your weather forecaster. Gorge Weather Forecast
It’s a gorgeous start to the day with blue sky and just a touch of wind. Somehow, even though it’s warmer than yesterday, it feels cooler to me. Less clothes, maybe? Anyway, Temps will be in the upper 60’s early (open windows) and the upper 80’s later (close windows). We will see a tiny chance of thunderstorms and a better chance of cumulus clouds this afternoon followed by a big marine push and a chance of sprinkles tonight. Light to moderate wind. No rainbows.
Wednesday sees a mega marine push with a tiny chance of morning sprinkles. Temps will be in the low 60’s early (open windows) and mid 70’s later (your choice with windows). Strong wind. 5% chance of morning rainbows. Thursday looks partly cloudy, maybe even mostly cloudy if Mother Nature goes all crazy on us. Temps will be in the mid 50’s early (open windows?) and low 70’s later (open windows). Light to moderate wind early, strong wind in the afternoon. .05% chance of rainbows.

White Sprinter Van of the Day
Road and Mountain Biking
It’s a beautiful morning for a road bike ride, and since I’m working this morning and then heading straight to Portland, you’ll have to ride for me. Just a few reminders: All of our road rides are now open, yay! Whoopdee is basically closed for the summer. Hospital Hill is cow pasture right now, meaning you can’t take your dogs. Those cows, by the way, if you’re into that sort of thing, are delicious. In other bike news, there’s a race Saturday at Wanoga Trails in Bend and a Super D at Skibowl.
Upcoming Events
Today’s events include free yoga at 4:30 at Flow in Hood River, pickup rugby at 5:30 at Hood River’s Waterfront Park, pickleball at 5:15 at May Street Elementary and free Zumba at the Parkdale Community Center at 6:30.
If you need something to do this weekend, there’s a kids fishing clinic at Spearfish Lake Saturday morning followed by a wildlife hike at Memaloose Hills. Gorge net’s having an anniversary party on Saturday at Hood River’s Waterfront Park, and Skibowl has a Super D race on Sunday. The White Salmon Backyard Half Marathon is next weekend.
Have an awesome day today!
