There’s zero snow in the Mt. Hood forecast for the next several days, but that doesn’t mean you won’t have fun up there. On the contrary, you’ll find excellent hardpack carving conditions right off the bat this morning before the snow turns warm and sticky this afternoon. The free air freezing level (FAF) today will be 8000′ early and 10,000′ this afternoon with 5000′ temps maxing out around 45 degrees. Light wind. Continued after the chart.

Gorge Wind Forecast
It’s all light and variable and stuff out there this morning, and shall remain so for a few hours this morning. Later today, you can expect east wind at 10-15 in the western Gorge with easterlies at 5 or less in the rest of the Gorge. River temps is 52 degrees. Sunday starts off with E 25-30 at Rooster and 10-15 at Stevenson. The easterlies should pick up to 20-25 at Stevenson midday. The rest of the Gorge starts off with a light easterly breeze and picks up to widespread E 10-15 in the afternoon. Monday looks similar to Sunday, with the easterlies maxing out at 20-25 at Rooster in the morning. Next chance for a big west wind event is late in the day Wednesday, but no guarantees, right? We all know how accurate those long-range models are…not…
Random Morning Thoughts
One of the things that really bothers me about cognitive styles of therapy is the proposition that by changing our thoughts we get to change the way we present in the world. These styles seem to imply that if we are willful enough, we can just change who we are. This, to me, feels like it can be judgmental and blaming if wielded carelessly. After all, according to this worldview, all the control lies in our conscious, and if we’re out of control, we’re bad people.
The truth of the matter is that we all get overwhelmed by our emotions sometimes. We also get overwhelmed by states of being that don’t serve us. For example, rather than reacting with calm and equanimity to a situation, we become fearful or angry. Then we tend to blame ourselves, because we have an idea that we should be in control all the time.
These moments where we lose control, they’re important. Not because we’ve done something wrong. On the contrary. These moments are important because they’re moments when we have something to learn about ourselves. Instead of being in control, we’re being run by unresolved and unconscious stuff. That doesn’t absolve us of responsibility, nope. But it does point us in the direction of something we can explore in service of our own growth.
So, seriously. Next time you mess up, embrace it. Take a look at what got you all riled up, and see how that situation relates to other situations in your past. Somewhere in there is understanding, and in understanding lies freedom. In understanding lies the ability to choose how to be in the world. Have an awesome day!

Gorge Weather Forecast
Clear sky and sunshine is the name of the game today. Expect a chilly start, with temps in the mid 30’s, but don’t let that dissuade you from leaving the house, as temps will rise to the low 70’s this afternoon. Light wind. No rainbows. Sunday looks sunny. Temps will be in the mid 40’s early and the upper 70’s in the afternoon. Moderate east wind. No rainbows. Monday looks sunny and hot. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and the mid 80’s in the afternoon. Light to moderate east wind. No rainbows. Next possibility of rain and/or rainbows is Wednesday evening, and there’s a better chance on Thursday afternoon.

White Sprinter Van of the Day
Road and Mountain Biking
I took on the horrible task of inspecting Post Canyon for you yesterday, and here’s what I found: the 12 Bridges trail is muddy (that’s the trail below the exit from Mitchell Ridge), but everything else is tacky and awesome. Reminders: Nestor is open, no dogs are allowed on Hospital Hill, Whoopdee is good, and there’s lots of poison oak at Syncline. In road biking news, today will be off the freakin’ charts with light wind, sunshine and high temps in the low 70’s. The east wind will pick up everywhere this afternoon, so be prepared. Tomorrow looks windier. Next zero-wind day looks like Tuesday.
Upcoming Events
Okay, confession: now that it’s rec report season, I’ve done all my event-gathering, and I have lots more to share with you. Sometimes it takes a little extra motivation. Anyway, there are sailboat races today and tomorrow in Cascade Locks. The United Way Maryhill uphill run/walk is this morning at the Loops Road. There’s a watershed walk with Oregon State Parks folks today at 2pm at Starvation Creek. Coming up tomorrow, the Cherry of a Ride, benefiting St. Mary’s Academy, takes place in The Dalles. It’s the Sandy Ride Enduro race tomorrow. The Birds of Prey Half-Marathon is in North Bonneville tomorrow.
In weekly events, there’s a trail run at Post Canyon this morning at 8am. There’s a free community yoga class at 10:30 this morning at Pure Yoga in The Dalles. Coming up tomorrow, there’s community yoga at 9am at Samadhi, 4pm at Pure Yoga The Dalles, and 6pm at Pure Yoga Hood River. There’s also community meditation at 11am at Flow Yoga, pickup touch rugby at 3pm at the Mosier School, Ping Pong at the Hood River Armory at 5pm, and pickleball at 5:15 at May Street Elementary’s gym. Looking at next weekend, Anson’s Bike Buddies has a bike donation drive at Cascade Eye Center on Sunday the 23rd from 10am to 3pm. If you have a bike you’re not using, donate it, and ABB will fix it up and give it to a local in need!
Have an awesome day today!
