Gorge Wind Forecast, continued…
Tomorrow also starts off with easterlies at 26-30 as an upper low off the coast sets up decent gradients. The wind quality will likely diminish tomorrow as this system brings rain to the Portland area by 10am or 11am. That said, the gradients will be there, and you’ll find rainy, gusty 26-30 at Rooster for much of the day with rainy, gusty 22-25 at Steven’s Locks. My goodness, that sounds fun, doesn’t it?!

See below for details.
As that weather system moves east on Sunday night, we’ll see the wind switch from easterly to westerly. Monday will start off with 26-30+ from Bingen east to Arlington. The timing, unfortunately, doesn’t look great, and without offshore high pressure to support the gradients, the wind won’t last all that long. Expect it to fade to 22-25 by midday, continuing to fade through the afternoon.
As of right now, it looks like we’ll see easterlies at 30-40 on Tuesday. I’m going to need to speak to Mother Nature about this: I would much prefer easterlies on Monday morning.
Out on the coast, the wind will be southerly and will blow during random periods over the next couple of days. Today: S 15-20, W swell 6′ @ 11 seconds. Tomorrow: variable winds peaking at S 25-30 midday, W 12′ @ 11. Monday: LTV, W 8′ @ 10.
Jones n’ Sauvie’s beta test forecast: no wind for the next three days at either of those beaches.

Random Morning Thoughts
Yesterday I was having a conversation with a friend of mine about “healthy” families. “Healthy” is not to be confused with “normal”, a word that describes something that doesn’t exist.
My definition of “healthy” says that kids in the family are well-adjusted. If there aren’t kids, healthy includes respectful, honest communication and a lack of contempt. My friend, I think, was beating himself up a little for the parental lifestyle in the family. But here’s the thing: he was beating himself up, not beating the kids up. And while beating yourself up a little bit, or questioning your lifestyle a little is healthy, beating up on kids or your partner (physically, emotionally, verbally, or through emotional neglect) is different.
This is an encouragement to just be you. If your way of being in the world doesn’t match the 1950’s ideal, that’s okay. It’s 2015, and who you are is okay, as long as you’re treating the people around you well. It’s okay to set aside that word “normal” and just be “healthy”, whatever that looks like to you. Have an awesome day.

Road and Mountain Biking
I checked out Post again for you yesterday, but this time I went running. I’m not sure what it’s like up high, but it’s a mix down low, and still good riding. I can’t remember if I mentioned that the trails closed by the Badger Lake Fire have reopened. Now you know that they have. We should get some rain tomorrow, so we’ll be back to tacky trail conditions by Monday afternoon. In road biking news, today looks cloudy with light easterlies. You’ll want to ride before the rain hits around noon tomorrow, and it’s going to be rather windy on Monday. There’s a work party in Post Canyon today at 9am. Meet at Family Man.

Upcoming Events
Today is the HRVHS gear swap: early bird buyers at 7:30-8:30, $25. After 8:30, $5/person or $10/family.
There are two trail work parties today: One on Falls Creek to reroute the trail off the roads and double-track onto new singletrack (YAY!). That one meets at 8am at Bridge of the Gods. If you’re too late for that, you may be able to catch them as they drive by the Falls Creek Trailhead, but I’m not sure you want to count on that. The work party location is quite difficult to find.
The HRATS have a trail work party in Post Canyon meeting at Family Man at 9am. Today is the Oregon Meteorological Society’s winter weather conference 10am-2pm at OMSI. There’s a trail run at 8am in Post Canyon. Coming up tomorrow, there’s free yoga (my favorite class) at 9am at Yoga Samadhi, free yoga at 4pm at Pure Yoga (YogaFaith, Christ-centered), and free yoga at Root Down at 6pm.
Have an awesome day today!
