Interesting Local Opportunity
The Hood River Sister City Committee is immediately seeking candidates for a unique position that places a Hood River County resident in Japan for one year starting this summer. The Coordinator of International Relations position comes with a competitive salary and benefits package and living arrangements in Tsuruta, Japan, Hood River’s longtime sister city. The CIR works at the Tsuruta town office and is responsible for helping with exchange activities, maintaining communications between cities and teaching basic English to the townspeople. Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Today looks clear and sunny on Mt. Hood with the free air freezing level (FAF) at 1500′ early, rising to 5000′, maybe a bit higher, in the afternoon. Wind will be light and variable (LTV) becoming W 10.
Sunday looks clear in the morning with high clouds moving in late in the day. The FAF will be 4500′ early and 6000′ in the afternoon. Wind will be NW 15 early, rising to NW 25 midday.
Monday starts partly cloudy, becoming cloudy in the afternoon with some precip overnight. The FAF will be 7000′ early and 6000′ overnight, dropping to 4000′ by Tuesday morning. The overnight precip, maybe .1-.2” water value (WV) will likely fall as sprinkles, but we might get lucky and get wet snow. Wind on Monday will be WSW15 early, slowly rising to WSW 35 in the evening.
Another round of precip hits midday Tuesday, with maybe .5” WV. At this point, the snow level looks borderline for the ski resorts, so let’s just wait a day or so and see how things shake out. An even wetter system moves in on Wednesday, but from this long view, that one looks colder.
Gorge Wind
There’s not much happening in wind world. This morning’s gradient is E .04, and that will give us short-lived 17-21 midday, fading to nothing in the afternoon. We’ll see light west wind tomorrow at 10-15 or less, fading in the afternoon. On Monday, we’ll see westerlies at 10-15 or less. Stronger wind returns with Tuesday’s weather system – gusty, up-and-down W 21-24.
Gorge Weather
It doesn’t get much nicer than this in spring. We’ll see temps in the upper 20’s this morning rising to the low to mid-50’s this afternoon with light wind and clear sky.
Sunday starts with temps in the mid-30’s, rising to the upper 50’s in the afternoon, maybe the low 60’s. We’ll see mostly clear sky early becoming partly cloudy with high overcast in the afternoon. Wind will be west at less than 15mph.
Monday brings temps in the mid-30’s early and mid-50’s in the afternoon. We’ll see partly cloudy sky in the morning with cloudy sky late in the day and some sprinkles overnight. Wind will be W 10-15.
Road and Mountain Biking
You will find lovely dirt in Post Canyon today. I’m not so sure about Syncline or Whoopdee – with temps at 28 degrees this morning, there might be some freeze-thaw out there. You will have to go ride and tell me. The road riding will be spectacular, with sunshine and light wind. Yay!
On to Hospital Hill, the Kreps will be putting cattle out starting the 24th. So, they would appreciate it if people would avoid using the area from Spring Creek Corrals down to the Hospital from noon to 5pm on the 24th through the 31st. Also, NO DOGS on Hospital Hill between NOW and July 1st. Yes, that means you and your little/old/blind/etc dog that wouldn’t hurt a fly. By bringing your dog to the Kreps’ private land when they’ve asked you not to, you risk losing access for everyone. Thanks for your help, and please spread the word!

Today is the Skibowl Snow Beach party with pond skimming and wing eating. Tomorrow is the spring demo day at Meadows with free demos of next year’s gear. Tomorrow afternoon in the Hood, there’s ping pong at the armory and pickup rugby in Mosier. Okay, that’s in Mosier, not the Hood, but close enough.
