Saturday. 10/26. Gorge wind. Events. Upcoming frost.

It’s fall now, and that means it’s time for … more windsurfing and kiting! No, silly. It’s time to think about skiing. You can get the best Mt. Hood snow forecast right here, all winter long, starting around November 15th. Bookmark this page. Come back for snow! Your forecaster. That’s right. Use my snow forecast.…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Random Morning Thoughts

I’m off to see the wizards at the Portland Winter Weather Conference

Cool local business – please support them!

There are some businesses that are just plain awesome. Dirt Hugger is one. Too much food waste at your business or municipality? Dirt Hugger will take it away! All that food waste becomes food-for-your-garden compost. Temira’s guerilla garden agrees: Dirt Hugger compost is the best! Pick it up or have it delivered. Call them today, and make your garden happy with a winter layer of compost: 541.9four6.347eight.

Wind guessings, prognosticatings and musings

Today looks like the lightest wind day of the next three. You know you love hearing that! We’ll see easterlies peaking at 13-15 midday today before switching to westerly at 5-10 late this afternoon.

Westerlies crank up overnight (don’t leave your garbage can out), for 26-30+ tomorrow morning. It’s probably going to be a Mosier-Maryhill day on Sunday. But maybe we’ll get lucky and see wind at Hood River and at the Hatchery too. Hopefully. Driving is bad for the planet, and besides, I prefer sailing right here near town. Anyway, get it early tomorrow, because it’s going to fade quickly as very strong high pressure builds over the PNW.

Plain old weather

You have enjoyed this wonderful weather, I know. So have I. Kiss it goodbye and don’t expect to see it again for a while. Sunday marks the beginning of a more active weather pattern, with a good chance of sprinkles Sunday and more next week. But first, let’s talk about Monday night, when we’re probably going to see frost down low with some 20’s at higher elevations. There. We talked about it.

Biking

With frost coming, the end of mountain biking at high elevations is also coming, because the freeze thaw cycle combine with mountain bike tires does very bad things to trails. So get your 44 Road fun this weekend.

And no, tomorrow is not going to be a good day for a road bike ride!

Events – email me if I’ve missed any outdoor-related events

Today is your chance to give back to Post Canyon for all the fun times it gives you. Show up at Family Man at 8:30 for a work party with the HRATS. You’ll be coffeed, fed, and raffled for your 3 hours of work.

Also today, Mr. Dan Gavere, athlete and rep galore, has a garage sale from 8am-1pm at 1704 Orchard Road. I believe this is the portion of Orchard Road accessed from Tucker Road out past Windmaster, but you’ll have to Google Map it to be sure. Dan has neat things at his garage sale: SUP boards, paddles, kayaks, helmets, and lots of t-shirts and size 9 shoes. And tools.

Remember, there are three running events today: the Parkdale fun run/walk at 9, the Pumpkin trail run in North Bonneville at 9, and the Harvest Hustle at Mid-Valley Elementary at 9:30. If that’s not enough running for you, the Columbia Gorge Marathon is tomorrow, and so is the Vampires and Victims 5k run/chase.

Tomorrow at Dirty Fingers, there’s the “We Hate Cancer” ride at noon – a Post n’ Pint midday lap. Show up. Ride. Get a free beer. Then eat some fundraiser boobie cakes and chicken breasts and buy special limited edition pink and black jerseys.

Have an awesome day today!

Temira
