Wind guessings, prognosticatings and musings
Yesterday was a nice day on the river, for an hour, anyway. Today is starting with .03 across the Cascades, less than we had yesterday, but still enough to fuel some wind. as high pressure combines with a weak approaching front for 10-13 this morning from Stevenson to Mosier, picking up to 21-24 this afternoon. You’ll find the stronger wind at Stevenson first, then at the Event Site, then Mosier, then at Doug’s. I suspect it will skip the Hatchery area, but I’ve been wrong before.
Tomorrow brings westerlies at 5-10 early, picking up to 15-18 in the afternoon as this front moves east. Sunday brings light wind, and it’s looking like next week will bring some east wind.

Plain old weather
Today looks partly to mostly cloudy with no rain. We’ll see a cool, cloudy day on Saturday, with the possibility of a few sprinkles in the evening. On Sunday, expect a morning inversion cloud followed by sunshine, and then expect sunshine all next week.
On Mt. Hood, the free air freezing level will be around 8000′ today. The snow level tomorrow, as the next system moves in, will be 5500′ early, dropping to around 5000′ in the afternoon with 1-2” of accumulation or less. The freezing level on Sunday, as the sky clears, will be 6000′.

If you’re looking for something to do tomorrow, go help the fine folks at Skibowl build trails. In exchange for your help from 9am-1pm, they’ll give you a free bike lift ticket (valid for a year), and free pizza and beer at the Ratskeller starting at 2pm. Also, mark your calendars for the next HRATS work party on October 26th.
For something less active, check out the HR International Mountain Film Festival at the Skylight Theater tonight, tomorrow and Sunday. There’s also the Food Forum (who doesn’t like food?) at the Skamania County Fairgrounds Saturday, 9-3, and there’s a CGWA work party at Doug’s Beach on Saturday, 9-1.
And don’t forget: If you are desperate to ski, Timberline is open today through Sunday for skiing on Palmer.
