Meet your forecaster: Temira

You know you like photos of yourself windsurfing or kiting. Or skiing. Or snowboarding. If you ride Meadows, you know Grant Myrdal. You’ve seen the blue flags on the good days. Well, those blue flags are in the Gorge now, and Grant and his team are out shooting photos of YOU ripping it up. This is more PSA than advertising, cuz we all love photos. Grant’s out there like Waldo. Find him. And don’t forget to smile. Smiles make photos prettier. We’re giving away two photos (of you, duh) on the email list. Yeah, Grant! =) .

Temira’s random morning thoughts

Yes, this forecast is late. You can thank Microsoft Updates for that. Or you can thank me for having to shut down my computer and forgetting that MU would start doing its thing. At least it’s Monday, and you’re all supposed to be working, not reading a wind forecast, right? Kidding, kidding…

Wind forecast

Today looks like another light wind day in the Gorge, great for SUPing or fishing or road biking or just plain hanging out and enjoying the quiet. We’ll see a short burst of W 5-10 early this morning, quickly backing off to east wind at 5-10 through the entire Gorge.

High pressure builds inland tomorrow and combines with low pressure off the coast for east wind at 22-25 for much of the day at Stevenson and Rooster Rock. On Wednesday, we’ll see more clouds in Portland with better onshore flow, and west wind in the low to mid twenties in the western Gorge. Maybe, just maybe, the Freestyle Frenzy will happen this day, although models are indicating the marine push could push just a little too far for the Hatch. Let’s wait and see, shall we?

Out on the coast, expect 20-25+ everywhere today (except maybe Pistol which will likely be affected by the N. Cali heat low). Waves today are N 3@7. Tomorrow looks light on the coast (although NOAA says N, it looks light offshore to me) with N swell 5@8. Wednesday looks like light W wind on the coast.

Bike News

In bike ride news tonight, the spandex crowd does a slow recovery ride around the Gorge – meet at HRVHS at 5:30 to join in. Also tonight, at 6:30, meet at Mountain View for a mellow ride to the Thirsty Woman in Mosier. If you’re coming on that one, please bring a light and wear a helmet. Also, please bring your alcohol tolerance (I don’t have a tolerance, so I’m not allowed to drink on the ride) so you make it home safely.

Very Important News

Coming up tomorrow, there’s pickup touch rugby at the Hood River Marina at 5:30, there’s triathlon practice at the Event Site at 6, and there’s outdoor music at the Ruins all evening. Also tomorrow, southerly upper flow kicks in, giving us a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon with a very, very good chance for a beautiful sunset tomorrow night and a beautiful sunrise Wednesday morning.

If you’re around next weekend, there’s a family-friendly mountain bike campout at the EasyCLIMB trail in Cascade Locks on Saturday night. There’s also the US Windsurfing Nationals (HR), the WIND youth sailing regatta (CL), and the Wild Woman offroad marathon (Trout Lake).
