Monday. 7/8. Mellow Monday in da Gorge, except on the river where it’s windy again!

It’s Pledge Drive Month Thanks for coming here for your forecast. It’s time for the summer pledge drive! “WHAT?”, you say, “I thought this was free!” Well, it is. But I write the forecast every day – it takes a lot of time and energy. It’s my job, and you’re my employers! Here’s the deal:…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

It’s Pledge Drive Month

Thanks for coming here for your forecast. It’s time for the summer pledge drive! “WHAT?”, you say, “I thought this was free!” Well, it is. But I write the forecast every day – it takes a lot of time and energy. It’s my job, and you’re my employers! Here’s the deal: Every day someone has to pledge. If I get pledges totaling $15 or more, there’s a forecast the next day. If not, no website forecast: only the people on the email list get their forecast. Want on that list? Make a donation of $12 or more via PayPal by clicking on the sun, and you’ll be on the list. Thank you so much for your support, and have a wonderful summer!

Tomorrow’s forecast status:
Thank you Scot and Charlie. Everyone have a wonderful day!

Good morning,

Here is a statistic for kicking off the work week. Facebook posts with photos tend to generate 58% more likes than your average post. Next up, what is the best time to post? Best day to post? How often? And the questions continue. MARiASH MARKETiNG will not only help you with each, yet also help you build a plan to execute a successful strategy for growth with engaged users and loyal fans! We’re giving away an hour of consulting on the email list. Subscribe for details on the raffle. In the meantime, visit MARiASH MARKETiNG today!

What a nice way to start the week: sunshine. Wind. Cherries. I’m buried in cherries. My girlfriends with cherry farms keep inviting me up to pick cherries. It’s hard to say no to the delicious gold and purple gems. What’s harder to resist are the sparkling red pie cherries. There’s nothing better than a pie cherry pie made from never-been-frozen pie cherries. Talk about a slice of heaven…

Wind forecast

Looks like another windy day around here, as clouds all the way to Stevenson combine with sun in the desert for solid west wind all day. Gradients were .12/.05 at 7:30am. That’s plenty. Westerlies will be in the low twenties this morning, but they’ll pick up. I’m thinking we’ll see a period of 25-29 at the Hatchery late morning and at Doug’s this afternoon. With no weather systems on the move today, the wind should be relatively steady all day.

Tomorrow starts off glassy, but the wind will pick up late in the day (after 2pm) to W 10-15, or maybe W 13-16 at best from Stevenson to Hood River. Wednesday looks really windy, with 23-26 or more in the morning and 26-30 in the afternoon. I’m guessing the Hood River Huckfest (likely held at Rufus), will happen Wednesday and Thursday.

Keep an eye out for Grant Myrdal’s blue flags. He’ll be out there shooting photos of you windsurfing and kiting all week and weekend. Visit him at his booth at the Event Site entrance. He likes baked goods…

Bike News

There are two community bike rides tonight – the first is for the spandex crowd, but it’s a slow paced ride. Join the Ride Around the Gorge for an hour or so at recovery pace starting at 5:30. They’re meeting at the parking lot at the bottom of the Klickitat River for a cruise up the Klickitat and back down (into the ever-present Klickitat headwind). Also tonight, leaving Mountain View Cycles at 6:30, it’s the booze cruise, a really mellow, everyone’s welcome, no-spandex ride to the Thirsty Woman in Mosier. Please wear a helmet and bring a light if you’re doing this ride.

Very Important News

Coming up this Wednesday, it’s the White Salmon Riverfest and Symposium. The best part is the community raft float – if you can get Wednesday off, it’s only $20 for locals to go on a rafting trip. Just because the trip is cheap, doesn’t mean you get to be: TIP YOUR GUIDES!

After the raft trip, swing by Wet Planet and other locations in Husum for raffles, social hour, food, drinks, and a party with the Shed Shakers. For more information call Wet Planet Whitewater.

Have an awesome day today!

Temira
