The pie I baked yesterday for the boys at Dirty Fingers ended up in the bellies of the customers at Dirty Fingers. I at some too. Does this mean I have to bake another pie? And speaking of pie, boy did it feel nice to wake up sans the assistance of an alarm clock today. No, that really has nothing to do with pie. I just couldn’t think of a good segue.
Wind forecast
Less marine clouds this morning mean slightly warmer weather and somewhat less wind today. That said, it’s cloudy in Portland, and that’ll give the desert an edge in the heating game. Expect westerlies at 18-23 near Hood River this morning with less wind everywhere else. By midday, we should see 22-25 near Hood River with a slow increase in the wind at other beaches. Late in the afternoon (or by mid-afternoon, at the earliest), a weak weather system approaching the coast kicks the wind up a notch at Stevenson, and takes it down a notch near Hood River.
Deeper marine layer penetration Sunday morning starts us out with wind in the 22-25 range near Hood River and at Mosier. With nothing moving about in the upper atmosphere during the day, wind speeds should climb into the (relatively steady) 24-28 range from Hood River to Doug’s.
Monday brings westerlies in the mid-twenties, and the rest of the week, at this point, looks to bring west wind at various strengths.

Bike News
In bike news there’s, great news from the Kreps: the Evergreen Highway trail has reopened – actually, all the Hospital Hill trails are open except Monkey, Hector, and Crazy Fingers. In other bike news, Plains of Abraham and Ape Canyon are open, but Smith Creek has a ton of downed trees.
Very Important News
In events this weekend, there’s the Watershed Relay today, where people make their way from the top of Adams to the Columbia River. At 9 today, the bike racers have their weekly ride leaving Ground Coffee. Then tomorrow there’s a swap meet starting at 8am at Windance. Also tomorrow, there’s pickup touch rugby at 3pm in mosier and pickup Ultimate at 4pm at the Hood River Marina.
Coming up in two weekends from now, it’s Kiteboarding for Cancer, and they’re looking for volunteers. Visit the event websitefor more information.
