Good morning,
It’s a gloomy start to the morning in the Gorge, but with west wind forecast to increase to W 21-24 as the day goes on, the gloom should break up and temps should hit the mid-40’s under partly cloudy sky this afternoon. Tomorrow starts off with light west wind switching to light east, but models seem to think cold overnight temps will give way to mid-40’s under high clouds in the afternoon. Tuesday looks cloudy, with west wind and chance of a few sprinkles, with heavier rain possible overnight into Wednesday.
In ‘what-should-I-do-today?’ news, there’s a tailgate party at Dirty Fingers sometime this afternoon. Why? Cuz it’s Superbowl, silly. Round up the wee ones and the wings and head to the bike shop for pigskin pride. And don’t forget to buy bike stuff, because the dirt is great right now!
In Mt. Hood news, it’s another sunny, warm day, but the wind will deflect some of the sun’s warmth and keep the corn snow sleeping in late. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 9000′, with temps in the 40’s early dropping to the 30’s in the afternoon. Wind will be W 20-30 all day.

Tomorrow starts off with sunshine on Mt. Hood. The FAF will be 6000′ early, 8000′ midday and 5500′ in the afternoon when clouds move in. There’s a chance of flurries overnight, although models seem to think the flurries will take a flight path north of Mt. Hood. Wind Monday will be W 15-20 early, W 10 midday, and SW 15 in the afternoon.
Tuesday brings a bit of new snow, finally, but it won’t be a ton. The snow level will be 3500′ early, 4000′ for much of the day, 2500′ around 1pm and 1500′ overnight. We’ll get .1-.2” water value (WV) during the day, followed by another .4-.6” WV overnight. That translates to 1-2” max during the day and 5-7” overnight. Wind Tuesday will be SW 25-30 until noon, and then SW 35-40 overnight.
On Wednesday, snow flurries continue, for no significant accumulation. The snow level will be 1500′ early, 1000′ midday and 2500′ in the evening. Wind will be WSW 40 in the morning, dropping to SW 30 mid-morning and holding. Heavier snow moves in Thursday and Thursday night, but high pressure will probably rebuild Friday into next weekend.
