Good morning,
I think NOAA is pretty much right on with their call for light freezing rain this afternoon into this evening. As a matter of fact, I think they’re so right on that I’m going to pass on going to Portland today and now have to find something equally fun to do. Maybe I can go to The Dalles instead! It’s going to be cloudy today, and then around 4pm, we’ll see some very light freezing rain, continuing through 4am. Total precip shouldn’t be more than .1”, but freezing rain is freezing rain, and it’s probably best to stay off I-84 tonight. NOAA is right on with this, but they haven’t yet mentioned the strong possibility of another round of freezing rain through the Gorge on Saturday. It’s a long ways out to make a solid call, but take it into consideration when making your weekend plans. Also of note is the strong potential for no Nothing layer on Saturday morning, leaving us under high clouds and brighter light.

Up on Mt. Hood, the ski slopes are just going to see snow today, as they’ll be above the above-freezing layer of air. The snow level today will be around 4000′, with the air warming above freezing between 1500′ and 3500′ this evening. Snow starts around 4pm, for .1-.2” of water value for 1-2” of snow in the evening. Wind today will be S 15-25 early, rising to SW 35 in the afternoon.
Snow flurries continue Friday morning, with the snow level at 4000′ mid-morning, and 6000′ in the afternoon. Another .1-.2” WV falls between 4am and 10am, for 1-2” of new, after which skies become clear. Wind on Friday will be W 30 early, W 15 mid-morning and light and variable in the afternoon.
Saturday morning brings high clouds. Snow flurries start around 1pm, however, models are all over the place with precipitation amounts. It looks like we’ll see snow through 4am Sunday, but let’s just call it .1-.3” WV at this point, 2-3” of new. Wind on Saturday will be SW 15-25 all day.
Sunday starts off with flurries, becoming partly cloudy. Heavier snowfall moves in during the evening, but long-range models are suggesting a switch to rain overnight into Monday. Hard to tell this far out, with even Saturday’s models showing variation.
