6/2 Gorge wind and events

Good morning, It’s only 57 degrees in the Columbia River right now, and your body isn’t designed for that. Promotion wetsuits are. With thousands of wetsuits in stock and all sorts of not-so-stock sizes (and alterations on site), you’re going to find the perfect suit if you stop by. Promotion isn’t just wetsuits: it’s rashguards,…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Good morning,

It’s only 57 degrees in the Columbia River right now, and your body isn’t designed for that. Promotion wetsuits are. With thousands of wetsuits in stock and all sorts of not-so-stock sizes (and alterations on site), you’re going to find the perfect suit if you stop by. Promotion isn’t just wetsuits: it’s rashguards, booties, hoods, beanies, shorts, vests and PFDs. Cold water suits are on sale now. Protect yourself from the chilly river the local way: Promotion, based here since 1985. Two short-sleeve rashguards are up for grabs. If you’re interested in winning, sign up for the email with a donation of $10 or more and you’ll have a chance to win.

It’s a drizzly morning here in the Gorge, and the showers out in the desert are having a detrimental effect on the wind this morning. That’s actually okay, because you windsurfers and kiters are supposed to be down in Cascade Locks helping with the Blackberry Beach work party from 9am until noon.

So, you know how this works: You’re supposed to be headed east of the clouds for decent wind conditions. That means you’ll have to head east of Mosier, but there are also clouds and rain in the desert, so you’ll have to stay west of them. 10-15 this morning in that cloud-free window picks up to gusty 23-26 in that region this afternoon, with 15-18 in the afternoon in the cloudy areas.

Tomorrow starts off very light, picking up to 17-21 midday east of Hood River, and then picking up to 22-25 late in the day out at Arlington as a rainy upper level low approaches. Monday looks wet and rainy, with strong wind late, late, late in the day.

For your shopping fun this morning (if you didn’t get enough shopping in at First Friday last night), Columbia Gorge Offroad Association has a swap meet at Watson Performance from 9am to 1pm. After that, they’re hosting a dirt bike ride out of Pine Mont at 2pm. Also today, Saturday market in Hood River, and the White Salmon Spring Festival.

Coming up tomorrow, Windance has free Jimmy Lewis standup board demos at the Event Site from 10am to 2pm, and with light wind, it should be a great day for the SUPping.

Looking ahead to next weekend, for events that need some advance planning, there’s the Post Canyon Trailbuilder appreciation dinner and potluck at Family Man at 6pm on Friday. Then on Saturday, it’s the White Salmon Riverfest, with $25 whitewater rafting for locals. Along with that rafting, there’s a tour of Condit Dam, music, food, and all sorts of other fun stuff. Give Wet Planet a call to sign up for the rafting. Also next weekend, the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic, always taking volunteers!

Have an awesome day today!
