Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

Good morning,

In the wind forecast today, easterlies at 18-23 at Rooster and at Stevenson this morning fade to 15-18 this afternoon before swinging around to west wind late in the evening. Then tomorrow, westerlies kick back in, blowing 24-28 in the morning from Hood River to Mosier, filling in to Doug’s and Maryhill in the afternoon. At this point, it looks like we’ll have westerlies again on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. For you coast sailors, the north coast looks good Wednesday and the south coast on Thursday and Friday with an 8 foot swell for much of the week.

If you’d like to get involved with the local trail system, tonight is the Columbia Gorge Offroad Association’s monthly meeting. It’s at Watson Performance in Hood River at 7pm. That’s for you ATV and dirt bike people. Tomorrow’s the big Hood River County Trails meeting at 4pm at 601 State, where you can also drop off your ballot if you haven’t voted yet.

Coming up Wednesday, there’s lots of fun stuff going on. They Kayak Shed’s shop paddle is at 5:30 on the White Salmon, the ladies-only mountain bike ride, the Post and Pinot, lead by the fearless Heather Pola, leaves Dirty Fingers at 5:30, there’s sailboat racing out of the Hood River Marina at 6:30pm, and at 7pm, ranger Jimmy T gives a presentation on the history of local trails. If you’ve wondered how the trails got built and who built them for you, this is a not-to-be-missed talk.

Looking ahead to next weekend, it’s the Dirty Fingers grand opening party and 2nd Wind’s season opener party.
