Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

In events today, there’s the Kayak Shed’s shop paddle on the Lower Hood River, currently runnin gright around 6ft . Also tonight, there are sailboat races out of the Hood River Marina, assuming there’s any wind at all, which looks unlikely. If there’s not, nicer weather this afternoon will make for a nice evening at Cathy’s boathouse.

In mountain bike news, Mitchell reports that Kitchen Sink and Surveyors to the lookout were excellent yesterday, at least until a snowstorm rolled in, removing the excellence from the ride. Snow aside, it sounds like we have one more trail open. And remember, the Dog River Enduro is this weekend, so that trail will be open for sure by Monday. In other mountain biking news, the morels are out (I found 2lbs yesterday), so keep your eyes open while riding. There’s a Dirt Girls work party next Tuesday. Girls only. In moto news this weekend, the Oregon Trail Rally visits Middle Mountain on Saturday and the Dufur area on Sunday. Thanks to y’all, I’ll be going for a ride with a rally driver at PIR tomorrow. In definitely-not-motorized news, there are free standup paddle demos at Hood River’s event Site on Saturday, brought to you by Big winds. Also on Saturday, a CGORA dirt bike ride leaving Pine Mont at 10am. That is, obviously, motorized.

In wind and weather news this week, we’ll see westerlies at 10-15 through the whole Gorge this morning, swinging around to east wind at 10-15 this afternoon west of Hood River as a low pressure system comes up the coast. Tomorrow looks wet and rainy, with east wind at 18-23 in the morning at Stevenson and Rooster, switching to west at 24-28 late in the day east of Mosier with 15-18 from Stevenson to Hood River. On Friday, a pretty classic Gorge setup gives us west wind at 24-28+, likely from Hood River to the Rowena stretch of river. Saturday brings west wind and Sunday brings east wind.
