Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – 5000′
4a-8a 8a-12p 12p-4p 4p-8p 8p-4a
Saturday
Sunday
Monday

Good morning,

Oh what a glorious day it is! Sunshine! On Mt. Hood, we’ll see the freezing level rise to 6000’ today under clear skies. Wind will be WNW 10-15 early, rising to 15-20 mid-morning.

Sunday looks clear for much of the day, with high clouds moving in late in the afternoon. The freezing level will be 5500-6000’ with WNW wind at 15-20, dropping to 10-15 mid-morning.

We’ll see some precip start late Sunday night or early Monday morning, for .1-.2” water value by 5am. With the freezing level at 5500’ in the morning, this should fall as wet snow. Sadly the freezing level will rise to 6500’ by 2pm, before falling back to 4500’ around 8pm. That’s going to give us some rain during the day. We’ll see .3-.5” water value 5am-5pm, for rain down low and 3-5” of new snow up high. Wind will be SW 15-20 early, rising to 20-25 midday and 35-40 in the afternoon.

Another .2-.3” falls Monday night into Tuesday. With the freezing level at 4500’ late Monday, falling to 2000’ Tuesday morning, before rising to 4500’ in the afternoon, this should give us 2-4” of new snow. After the morning snowfall, skies will be partly cloudy Tuesday, with a few flurries, for no more significant accumulation. Wind will be W 20-25 early, going to SW 15-25 in the afternoon.

On the wind scene, today looks pretty good, with a classic Gorge setup under slightly colder conditions. We’ll see 21-24 for much of the day near Hood River, filing in at Doug’s and Rowena, and maybe even Maryhill, in the afternoon, but becoming gustier as the day goes on. The next two days look light.

In events, today is Ski to Defeat ALS at Mt. Hood Meadows. You can make a donation at their website. Coming up tomorrow, it’s Hood River Appreciation Day at Meadows with beer and wine samples. That should put you in the mood for your second sport of the day, followed by your third and fourth (do we have enough daylight for that yet.) In other news, the morels are starting to pop up. You can leave them at my house if you find them.

Have a great day today!

Temira
