Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – 5000′

Good morning,

‘Tis really spring. The forecast shows nothing exciting, precip-wise, in the weather department for the next few days or so, as low pressure systems stay well off the coast.

Today starts off cold, with the freezing level at the surface (at least in the Gorge, where I woke up to 30 degrees and smudge pots and orchard fans). We’ll see periods of clear skies and periods of high clouds today. Temps will warm today, with models showing the freezing level rising to 4000’ by afternoon. However, we’ll probably see warmer temps than that, with the April sun beating down on the slopes. Wind today will be in the S/SW 10-15 range. No precip.

Tomorrow brings high clouds. Latest models show precip staying to the west of us. So… high clouds, light SW wind at 10-15 all day, and the freezing level at 6000’, rising to 6500’ in the afternoon.

Coming up Monday, more of the same. High clouds in the morning, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon. Freezing level at 7500’ with S wind at 15-20.

In the wind department, there’s not much going on either. Strong east winds today are followed by lesser east wind the next couple of days as low pressure off the coast pulls the wind through the Gorge.

In events, there’s the King and Queen of the Mountain at Skibowl today. Coming up next week at Timberline, it’s $19.37 lift tickets all week long ($10 if you dress retro) to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Timberline Lodge. Also, discounted lodging. Drink specials. Etc. Should be a fun week there!

Have a great day today!
