Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – 5000′
4a-8a 8a-12p 12p-4p 4p-8p 8p-4a
Thursday
Friday
Saturday

Good morning,

Other than the fact that’s it’s frigid cold on the mountain this morning (for spring, anyway), it feels like spring. The low pressure systems are staying far enough off the coast that we’ll see limited precipitation in the next week or so.

Today brings alternating flurries and sunbreaks on Mt. Hood, with the snow level at an astonishing less-than-1000’ during the day, rising to 1500’ in the afternoon. Wind will be NW 10-15 all day today. We’ll see .1”-.2” water value during the day, for 1-2” of new snow, followed by another .1-.2” WV tonight, for an inch or two more.

Friday starts off partly cloudy, becoming mostly clear in the afternoon. The snow level will be less than 1000’ in the morning, rising a bit during the day with the sunshine, but never really getting much above 1000’. Wind on Friday will be NW 15-20, backing off to W 10ish in the evening.

Saturday starts off clear, with high clouds moving in mid-morning, becoming denser high clouds in the afternoon. The freezing level will be 1500’ early, rising to 2000’ mid-morning, 3500’ in the afternoon, and 5000’ in the evening. Wind on Saturday will be E/SE 15-20 early, rising to SE 20-30 in the afternoon. No precip will fall on Saturday.

Sunday starts off with clouds and flurries, with a chance of drizzle. The snow level will be 6000’ at 5am, falling to 5500’ at 11am. Total precip will be less than .2”, as the storm providing the clouds and moisture stays well off the coast. Wind will be SW 25-30, swinging to S 25-35 in the afternoon.

The cool, showery weather continues next week, as a big low pressure system stays firmly off the coast.

That low pressure system will limit wind through the Gorge as well. We’ll see W 15-18 near Hood River today, with 17-21 out east. Tomorrow brings light and gusty conditions to the central Gorge, with W 21-24 our east. Saturday bring strong easterlies in the afternoon, and Sunday brings light west wind.

In events, Saturday is the King and Queen of the Mountain contest at Skibowl. Sunday is a CGORA ride / trail cleanup at Pine Mont.

Have an awesome day today!

Temira
