For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – 5000′

Good morning,

I was told this morning that it’s going to be an awesome day and everyone’s going to be in a good mood because the sun will shine. So, what happens if we end up with snow flurries? We’ll see a mix today of mostly sunshine and a few snow flurries, for .1” water value by 4pm for an inch or so of new snow. The snow level will be 500-1000′, and wind will be W 10-20, going to WNW 15-20 around 2pm and picking up to 20-25 by 5pm.

We’ll see snow flurries overnight for .1” WV and a trace of new snow by Monday morning, with the snow level at the surface in the Gorge and Hood River Valley, where we’ll also see a trace of new snow. The snow level rises to 500′ by 11am and 1000′ by 11pm. We’ll see sunbreaks and flurries during the day Monday, with .1” WV by 4pm for a trace to an inch of new. Wind on Monday will be WSW 15-20 early, picking up to 20-25 by 11am and holding all day.

Precip picks up Monday evening, with .1” WV by midnight and then .7” WV by 4am Tuesday. Things get complicated on Tuesday, as a warm front swings over the area. Temps early Tuesday morning will be -3C from 5000′ to 10000′, a likely freezing rain scenario between 4am-2pm, but we can still hope for wet snow. By 5am, the freezing level will be 3000′, rising to 5500′ by 8am, and slowly dropping back to 2000′ by 2pm and less than 1000′ by 8pm. We’ll see 1.5”+ WV between 4am and 4pm, so we’re really going to cross our fingers for wet snow rather than freezing rain. Wind on Tuesday will be SW 45-50 early, rising to 50-55 by 8am and 55-60 by 2pm, then dropping to 40-50 by 8pm.

That will be followed by another 1-1.5” WV Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning, with the snow level around 500-1000′. That should give us 12-16”+ of new snow Wednesday morning, followed by another .4” WV for 4-6” of new snow during the day Wednesday. Wind will be SW 10-15 early, rising to 20-25 in the evening.
