Good morning!

Ah yes. First snowfall of the season yesterday. Of course I didn’t take my own advice and had to drive/slide on slushy roads on my summer tires. Dear, dear Paco is helping me put my winter tires on today. The rest of you can go to Les Schwab and wait 4 hours!

As predicted, yesterdays storm was more of a s**tstorm on the mountain than a snow storm. It did start out as snow. Perhaps that’s too kind. It snained all day. Wet, wet, wet sloppy snow. In the afternoon, it switched to rain and freezing rain, and that’s what it did all night long. So, total precip from the storm: 2.79”. Total accumulation at 5000’: 2”. Not sure what happened higher up.

Coming up in events, the PDX Kayaker film festival is in Portland tonight. There’s also the 7-8pm playboating session at the Hood River pool. On (Black) Friday, there’s SnowDaze, a slideshow by Richard Hallman, Solitaire, a ski movie, at the Middle School, another award-winning ski movie at the Pint Shack. On Saturday, it’s the annual Girl Paddle on the White Salmon River (newly freed!), and there’s the Native Eyewear “Sunglasses at Night” party at the Elks Lodge, with free beer.

That brings us to today. The snow level is back down around 2000’, and we’ll see around 1” of precip today, mostly after 4pm, for 10-14” of new snow. Mt. Hood wind will be WSW 30-40 all day, fading in the evening.

Tomorrow sees the snow level around 500’, with a total of .2-.3” precip for 3-4 inches of new snow, mostly falling before 7am and after 7pm. Winds will be W 25-30.

On Saturday, we’ll see cloudy to partly cloudy skies with W wind at 10-15 and the snow level at 500’. Sunday looks similar to Saturday, with snow moving in overnight for a couple inches of accumulation. Monday looks snowy.

The next big system moves in on Tuesday. At this point, the models are suggesting it will fall as rain/snain at 5000’.

Friday-Tuesday look cold and snowy. Chance of Meadows in the next two weeks: 99.9%. Skibowl: 95%.
