Good morning!

Okay, so the east wind isn’t exactly light today. It was blowing 30 at Rooster and 15 at Stevenson when I checked, with a .15 east gradient. That’s plenty of pressure differential to support solid east wind in the Gorge all day today. We’ll see lighter easterlies tomorrow, fading in the afternoon. Friday starts out light, but as a strong cold front approaches from the NW, we’ll see west wind pick up to 24-28 late in the afternoon near Hood River.

In the mountains, we’ll see partly cloudy skies with the freezing level around 8500’ today and tomorrow with SW wind at 10-15 and no snow accumulation.

Cascade weather gets interesting Friday. The snow level starts around 8500’ in advance of the approaching weather system. By 4pm, the snow level drops to 5500’, falling all the way to 1500’, maybe even less, by 10pm, and holding through Saturday morning. Mt. Hood windspeeds will be W 20-25 early, rising to WSW 35-40 by 4pm, and going to NW 35-40 by 10pm. We’ll see a total of .5-.75” water value with this storm, giving Mt. Hood 7-10” of new snow above 5000’, with 4-6” of snow at 3000’. The snow will be heavy overnight, turning into flurries by Saturday morning.

The snow level Saturday holds between 1500’ and 2500’. Windspeeds early will be NW 30-35, slowly fading. We’ll see snow flurries in the morning for 1-2” of new snow. We’ll have to wait and see what the models predict for later in the day, but at this point, it seems like we’ll see another 4-6” of snow between Saturday and Sunday.
