This week’s forecast is brought to you by food. Specifically, Henni’s food. Henni’s Bar and Grill in White Salmon will feed you well, with everyday food from around the world concocted with passion and the finest locally-sourced ingredients. Chef-Owner Christiaan Erasmus has years and years and years of cooking experience (and pounds of passion), with…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

This week’s forecast is brought to you by food. Specifically, Henni’s food. Henni’s Bar and Grill in White Salmon will feed you well, with everyday food from around the world concocted with passion and the finest locally-sourced ingredients. Chef-Owner Christiaan Erasmus has years and years and years of cooking experience (and pounds of passion), with a good chunk of time behind the line at Portland’s famed Fratelli and a long stint at Hood River’s Abruzzo before he took the plunge in White Salmon. Henni’s is open for lunch and dinner Monday-Friday and for dinner only on Saturday, with small plates from $4-9 and big plates from $14-18 and a killer happy hour. We’re giving away gift certificates this week, and then we’ve got a treasure hunt for you all next month. Stay tuned! I think Christiaan is rad, and I think his food is delicious, so cross the bridge (unless you’re in WA already), and go check out Henni’s

Now, your forecast:

First off, I’ve been slacking on the prize drawings, so here we go: A Nikki Gregg standup paddle DVD goes to Pat B. A 2-week membership to Crossfit Hood River goes to Storm B. And a massage from Cascade Acupuncture Center goes to Jim L. Congratulations to all of you!

Yesterday was a little weird. When I sent the forecast out first thing, the clouds were west of Hood River, and by 8am, they’d moved past town, shifting the wind further east. I don’t think that will happen today. With a solid cloud line west of the Hatchery, we’re finally going to get that Corridor day we’ve been waiting for all summer. So, we’ll see clouds in the western Gorge this morning with west wind in the 19-23 range early from Hood River to Mosier, picking up to 25-29 and filling in from Stevenson to The Dalles in the afternoon.

The Clymb: free membership.
Access to super cheap gear including Trew, Zeal, Sierra Designs, and many more.

Tomrorow brings less clouds in the morning, for a little less wind. We’ll see 15-18 in the morning from Stevenson to Hood River, picking up to 17-21 from Stevenson to Mosier in the afternoon.

Friday sees a ridge start building across the northwest, so we’ll have wind in the 10-15 range in the central gorge in the morning, possibly picking up a little bit in the afternoon, with highs reaching 80 degrees.

Events tonight include the Post and Pinot (that’s the all-girls Post Canyon lap leaving Dirty Fingers Bike Repair at 1730), the Kayak Shed’s shop paddle (Husum at 1730), and sailboat racing out of the Hood River marina (race start 1830).

Tomorrow night is the Post and Pint ride, but if you’re not riding, come up to family man in Post Canyon for the Pump de Post, a pump track race. This is a family-friendly event, bbq but not booze friendly, and everyone’s welcome to come up and bring a bbq and hang out from 1630 to 1930. There are race categories for guys, gals, and various grom age groups, along with prizes, and all the proceeds benefit the Gorge Freeride Association’s trailbuilding fund. Remember, Post is built by volunteers (toast, however, is made in your toaster), not government, so your donations really make a difference.

Coming up on Friday, the Disco Divas are riding the Whoopdee trail. Meet at the China Gorge park n’ ride at 0830.

Have an awesome day today!
