Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. Good morning,

We have a low pressure system off the coast, and that’s going to keep Gorge westerlies in the 14-17 range today, with a chance of showers and less wind in the afternoon.

Coming up tomorrow, low pressure system hangs of the coast. That’s the opposite of what we want, so we’ll see light wind for much of the day. Then, late in the afternoon, depending on what that low pressure system does, we may see a short burst of strong wind, but it’s not going to be anything to plan your day around.

Wednesday morning looks similar to Monday and Tuesday, with clouds and light wind, as yet another low pressure system sets up near Vancouver Island. At this point, it looks like that low will track across the border in the afternoon, giving us 24-27mph in the eastern Gorge.

If the wind doesn’t happen Wednesday, there’s still the Kayak Shed’s shop paddle, sailboat races, and the first Hood River Tri practice of the season, meeting near the Event Site at 6pm. If you’ve never tried tri, feel free to show up. It’s a 500 yard swim, 2 mile run and 7 mile bike ride. Everyone is welcome, and it’s free.

Finally, the Mt. Hood Cycling Classic starts on Thursday, and if you’re not riding, consider volunteering. This event couldn’t happen without all the volunteers. Check out MHCC’s websitefor more information.
