Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. Good morning,

Today’s going to be the nicest day we’ve seen so far this spring, with temperatures hitting 75 degrees this afternoon. We’ll see light west wind in the 5-10 range this morning, fading this afternoon as high pressure takes hold. We’re also going to see some high clouds move in late today as a cold front approaches the coast.

That front moves across the Cascades tonight, leaving the Western Gorge in the clouds tomorrow with sunshine in the desert. We’ll have westerlies early tomorrow morning in the 17-21 range from Hood River eastward, increasing to 25-28 tomorrow afternoon from Rowena out to Arlington.

Westerlies in the low to mid twenties continue on Sunday with partly cloudy skies in the western Gorge.

In mountain biking world, next weekend is the Super D, and in honor of that event, the landowner at the bottom of Post Canyon has reopened the G-Out and the lower section of trail for training this week. I think I speak for everyone in the biking community when I say thank you to him. The trail’s in perfect shape, so go ride.

If you’re looking for events this weekend, there’s the Twin Tunnels run benefiting the Mosier School on Saturday. You can get more information at TwinTunnelsRun.com. On Saturday night, 2nd Wind has the kite season opener party at the British Pub in Hood River. And on Sunday, it’s the biggest swap meet of the season, taking place at Windance.

The rivers are still up, and if you want to go rafting, this is a good weekend for it. Wet Planet is running the Hood (5.1ft, 20 miles of whitewater), the Klickitat (3470cfs = big!), the Wind (5.8ft) and maybe even the usual, the White Salmon (4.5ft).
