Meet your forecaster: Temira

Good morning,

Models are all over the place with wind speeds today. They’re agreeing that we’ll see fairly light westerlies, about 5-15mph this morning, but they’re all over the place this afternoon. I think we’ll see 13-15 through the entire gorge this afternoon, at best, as a low pressure system off the coast limits the pressure gradient through the Gorge. On the other hand, there is a weak shortwave headed our way, and if that clips the Gorge, we’ll have gusty 21-24 late this afternoon.

Tomorrow sees the upper level low move a little closer to land, giving us east wind. We’ll see 17-20 from Rooster Rock to Home Valley tomorrow. We’ll also be under southerly flow, so we’ll have warm, humid air with a slight chance of thunderstorms.

The wind forecast for this weekend doesn’t look promising, as low pressure hangs off the coast. We’ll see gusty west wind in the 17-20 range with showers and a chance of thunderstorms.

Today is the Post and Pint Ride out of Dirty Fingers bike repair, and coming up this weekend it’s work party time in Post Canyon. Columbia Gorge Offroad Association hosts a work party on the super-sick 140 trail, meeting at the Post Flats staging area at 9am. Bring your dirt bike for a ride at 1pm. Sunday is also Charley LaVenture trail day, meeting at the first gravel road after Family Man at 9:30am. Charley was my friend, Charley kicked ass, and since I can’t be there because I have to work at Meadows, you should be.

Speaking of Meadows, this weekend is also your last chance for lift-serve skiing at Meadows, and it’s looking like a snowy weekend on the slopes, with the possibility for thunderstorms in the cascades both days. Yay.

    Just a heads up. Pacific Corp now says that there is less than a 50% chance of it coming out this fall. There is hold up due to sediment and Bonneville Dam. It’s all hogwash but it’s holding it up for another year.
