Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

One more day of snowy weather is on the table, and then we transition into cool, dry weather through Thursday or Friday. After that: potentially a burst of rain followed by more snow. If you like XC, groomers, parks, or touring, this is going to be a great week!

Sunday night brings orographic snow to the slopes, 0.2” to 0.3” of it. That’s about 3” of new pow-pow atop the 3” that fell Sunday afternoon. The snow level will be 2000′ Sunday evening and down to 0-500′ near Mt. Hood after midnight. Wind: W 30 overnight into the morning. Monday starts snowy and turns partly cloudy with a few flurries in the afternoon. The snow level will be 0-500′ early, 1500′ in the afternoon, and 0′ under clear sky overnight. About 0.2” to 0.3” water equivalent (WE) falls in the morning for 2-4” dry powder. Afternoon: 0.1”, for another inch of new. Wind: W 30 in the morning drops to SW 10-15 in the afternoon and swings to NNEW 10 overnight.

Tuesday will be sunny all day. The free air freezing level rises from 0′ in the morning to 1500′ in the afternoon with temps rising to the mid 20’s on the slopes. Wind: NNE 10 in the morning, variable to 5 in the afternoon, and NW 10-15 overnight. Wednesday will be clear and sunny. The FAF maxes out at 2000′ with NW wind at 10-20mph. Thursday: also clear and sunny, but warmer. Temps rise to the upper 20’s with the FAF at 2500′. Light west wind. Slightly warmer weather is forecast for Friday.

Models suggest a warmer, wetter system will arrive Saturday morning. That could come in as rain – ensembles have 850mb temps (5000′ or so) at +1C to +4C. After that, though, temps drop and more snow falls. All-in-all, it looks like a great week on the slopes. Sun. Excellent hardpack conditions. Enjoy!
