Gorge Wind Forecast

Hi, friends! Three very windy days are on tap. You know you want it. Get it! Sunday kicks off with 50mph at Iwash (Rooster) Rock, 30-35 at Stevenson (38 degrees to start), and 20-25 at Viento. Stevenson picks up to 30-35 mid-morning. Afternoon wind falls to 15-20 at Viento, 25-30 at Stevenson, and 40 at Iwash. River flow yesterday was 110-138kcfs, river temp is 50F, and high temp forecast is 42F. Note: we are under 100F total. Be careful out there, and keep an eye on your buddies.

Monday starts with 50 at Iwash, 30 at Stevenson, and 20-25 at Viento. Stevenson picks up to 35-40 mid-morning before fading to 25-30 in the afternoon. Iwash drops to 35-40 in the afternoon. Low temp: 25F. High temp: 42F. Tuesday starts with 40 at Iwash and 25-30 at Stevenson. Afternoon wind drops to 25-30 at Iwash and 20-25 at Stevenson. Low temp: 24F. High temp: 40F. Lesser westerlies are forecast on Wednesday. Looking deeper into the future, there are hints of strong west wind as a low moves into BC next Sunday or Monday. Be safe out there today!

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – intermittent forecasts until ski season

Calm, quiet, sunny weather persists through Wednesday. After that, all hell breaks loose on the mountain. Over the following five days (when I’ll be on a retreat, naturally), very stormy weather dumps a bit of snow, blasts the mountain with nuking winds, and drenches everything with a Pineapple Express. Details on this are not yet clear – models can’t predict the nuances this far out. Suffice it to say that we shall have chaos.

But not today. Nope. Sunday will be sunny all day. The free air freezing level rises from 8000′ in the morning to 10,000′ in the afternoon. Wind will be variable to 10mph. Monday looks similar: sunny, warm (FAF 10,000′), with S wind at 5-10mph. Tuesday will be mostly clear other than a few high clouds in the afternoon. The FAF will be 10,000′ in the morning, 8000′ in the afternoon, and 6000′ overnight. Wind: variable to 15. Wednesday will be sunny and cooler with wind variable to 15.

A weak system is forecast sometime Thursday. As of right now, it looks to drop 2-4” of snow with the snow level at 3500′ or less. That’s the opening salvo. Snowy, stormy weather is forecast Friday into Saturday. Models bounce the snow level from the snow zone to the rain zone and back to the snow zone over the weekend, and then they’re pretty intent on some sort of warm/wet event to start the following week. Total precipitation from this five-day stormy period isn’t clear yet, but the 50% percentile has about 17” of snow with 4.4” of precipitation. Will that be enough to get the ski resorts going? Hard to say, but at least we’ll be starting to build the snowpack. Stay tuned!

Hood River Weather Forecast

Clear sky sticks around all day. Temps start in the upepr 20’s and rise to the low 40’s. Easterlies. No rainbows. Ditto for Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday with a slight chance of Nothing in the morning. Precip arrives sometime Thursday and continues on and off through the first few days of next week.

Amayah’s has their one-year anniversary party in Biggs. Also, every first Thursday, 1pm to 4pm, they are offering free meals to all. Yup. That’s right. Free Amayah’s once a month!

Regular weekly events:. NK Studio’s by-donation Tuesday morning yoga class is back. Ferment’s Tuesday night 4-mile walk/run is at 6pm. There’s meditation with monks at 5:15pm (an hour) and 6:30pm (30 minutes plus a talk) at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon. The Tri Club is done for the season. At 7:15am on Wednesdays, there’s a run from the White Salmon Bakery. At 7am on Friday morning, there’s a run from Pine Street Bakery. On Fridays at 2:30pm, there’s a free meditation and stretching class at Yoga Samadhi. On Saturday at 9am, there’s a by-donation outdoor group fitness on the 2rd floor deck about Ferment Brewing.

Cycling

Regarding the trails in general: don’t ride in the mud. You’ll damage the trails. Don’t ride trails if it was below freezing the previous night and is above freezing when you want to ride. Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
