Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Good morning!

This morning brings my not-so-favorite weather to Mt. Hood’s slopes: fog. Hopefully that will burn off and give way to something nicer later on today,. Most likely it will just be cloudy with flurries. The NWRFC is calling for .5-.75” wv today, but I’m not seeing that in other models. I think we’ll see a couple more inches of snow during the day, but that’s about it. The snow level will be around 4000’ all day. At least winds won’t be too bad: SW 20-30 early, falling to S 15-20 midday, and going to W 5-10 late in the evening.

We’ll see more snow flurries all day tomorrow, for an inch or two during the day. The snow level will be at 2000’ early, rising to 3000’ by 4pm. Winds will be light, at W 10-15 in the morning and W 15-20 by 4pm. Heavier snowfall starts tomorrow night around 10pm for 3-4” of new overnight.

Heavy snowfall continues Saturday morning for another .5” WV during the day, for 4-5” of snow between 5am and 5pm, becoming snow flurries overnight. Winds pick up a bit on Saturday: SW 20-25 in the morning building to SW 30-35 mid-afternoon.

Models disagree on snowfall amounts Sunday, probably because they can’t decide if the storm track will hit us or go slightly north (hitting Crystal and Baker instead). We’ll see somewhere between .25-.7” WV on Sunday, for moderate snowfall much of the day, heaviest in the morning, with the snow level around 2000′. Winds Sunday will be SW 20-30 until 4pm, when they’ll switch to W 20-30.

Monday and Tuesday look snowy.

It’s not looking like we’ll see much in the way of Gorge wind for the next few days.

Have a great day today!

Temira
